I know that it rots your teeth. and that it's empty calories?

Why else. I'm trying to convince my coworkers to give it up and just drink water, with the "fulfill or on the go" packets dumped in them. but they are convinced because they brush their teeth that there is no harm done to them...

Here's a reprint of an email that I received from a family member. I can't guarantee it's authenticity or that any of the info is indeed true but it's interesting reading:

This is really an eye opener... Water or Coke? We all know that water is important but I've never seen it written down like this before.
> WATER
> 1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
> 2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.
> 3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.
> 4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.
> 5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
> 6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
> 7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
> 8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash
the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50%
less likely to develop bladder cancer.

> And now for the properties of Coke:

> 1. In many states (in the USA) the highway
patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the truck to
remove blood from the highway after a car accident.
> 2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone in two days.
> 3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola

> 6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth
soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
> 7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in
aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the
ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the
drippings to mix with the Coke for sumptuous brown gravy.
> 8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can
of Coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The
Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains.
> 9. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

> For Your Info:
> 1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric
acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days.
> Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from
bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis.
> 2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate)
the commercial truck must use the Hazardous material place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

> 3. The distributors of Coke have been using it
to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years!

> Now the question is...
Would you like a Coke or a glass of water?

Everything that goes down the throat has to be processed by the body, especially the liver, before the body can use it. The one exception is WATER! It cleanses the system and adds no empty calories. It protects the liver, the kidneys and the bladder. Soft drinks are full of empty calories and sugar which is bad bad bad for your health. Diet drinks are filled with Aspertame which is not good for your body either. But hey! Let your co-workers choose for themselves. I commend you for choosing water!

Tons of Caffeine and aspartame, sugar, just plain old crap all together. Plus, its said that you should wait an HOUR before brushing your teeth after drinking soda, because the acid in it ruins your enamel. If you put a metal nail in a cup of soda and leave it in there for a couple days, it won't be there when you come back..that's how bad it is.

Brushing your teeth has nothing to do with it, it's all the sugar you put in your system that really is bad for you. Each 12-ounce can of soda pop contains between 10 and 12 teaspoons of sugar. Which is just too much.

You aren't going to convince them of it. It is not only full of sugar, but it is sticky too. It's a double whammy on your teeth, and any dentist will tell you so. And unless they brush their teeth immediately after every soda they drink, their teeth are effected. Everyone knows that too much sugar is bad for you. They aren't going to stop drinking sodas just because you say so.

It's the phosphoric acid that ruins your bones. Preservatives that are far from being natural. Caffeine of course etc. Sugar might feed cancer and fungus in your body. And I've read that sweeteners are even worse. Just do some research on aspartame or this splenda stuff.

Recent studies have shown that having an acidic pH level in your body is condusive to all sorts of health problems. While maintainig a slightly basic pH level is condusive to good health. They proved that cancer being anaerobic, cannot live and multiply in a basic pH environment.

That being said soda is very acidic and continuous use will guarantee your blood pH being acidic always. If you drink lots of soda you better be taking alot of akylizing supplements.

it's GOOD FOR YOU

in moderation *. If it makes you happy, it is releasing endorphins in the brain which increase your score of well-being. One can of Cola a day can't do any harm, four or five is getting to be too many, a dozen sodas is a problem.

*moderation, for those Americans reading this, means in small quantities, with restraint. (George W still won't understand)
