are you the same ****** bitter ex - soldier who served in the 60's? i have a feeling it's you, seeing as you change your name every 3 weeks. if it is, i can see why you are mad at the military. just by reading your questions you must be a friggin moron and they probably booted your as-s for being incompetent. also stop asking these stupid fu-ckin questions. everyone asks this question, when will we leave iraq? not for a long time people. not that any war ever ends up following a specific timeline.

In 1968, President Johnson, a Democrat, said "we will save Vietnam", but I never heard anyone say "we will win in Vietnam" - are you sure of quote?
We will not cut & run, but the goverment will be ready to take over soon. What Iraq does with country after we leave, we have no power over. We pray they will defend the democracy they have fought for, unlike Vietnam who never had the guts to defend themselves.
Cow paddy, I mean cowfather - does WWI & WWII not count as wins off horses. Get a life - no, a book would help you more.

You guys were so close to winning Vietnam just after the Tet Offensive when the Communists were soundly defeated and basically on the run.
What happened? A lot of uninformed media reporting portrayed the Tet Offensive as a setback that demonstrated that the US didn't have control of the situation. They didn't realise that it was the Communist's last throw of the dice, just like the last suicide charge of a bunch of Japanese soldiers in the Pacific or the German Ardennes offensive in 1944 (the Battle of the Bulge).
Those guys couldn't believe their luck when they lost militarily but won on the propaganda front thanks to the US press and the peace campaign that grew up around it.
The reason you lost Vietnam? the people didn't have the resolve to see it through
The reason you might lose Iraq? see above

Actually, I don't remember that saying because I wasn't even born yet.
We can't undo Vietnam. Why are people so fixated on that war? My gosh, I'm concerned and have the up-most respect for our Vietnam Vest, my father-in-law is one, but why people insist on trying to compare that war to the Iraqi war, I'll never know. That was the past, this is the present, the here and now!

We won't because Bush will finish the job. Now if the democrats win the white house, we'll cut and run in a second and have a few more 9/11's.

it's tough to say. And the analogy is not alltogether valid. There's similarities sure, but saying Iraq's another vietnam because of them is like saying that 2 people are relatives simply because they both have red hair and freckles.

I find it rather insulting that you phrase "we cut and ran from Vietnam." If you lived that era, you would know that we did not "cut and run", we did what we could and paid a VERY HIGH Price for it. God Bless the Vietnam Vets!!!!!!!

We can not cut and run from this- we will have a presence in Iraqi for a long time to come... We have way too much invested in soldier's lives and energy, not to mention money for us to abandon it. Even if it looks list, we still need to keep a small force there to have a presence- not necessarily fighting, but like an armed embassy...

Hopefully, the people in Washington have a bit more spine than the folks that got us into that mess in Vietnam. And hopefully, we as average joe americans will stand behind our president and support him.
PS. How you coming on the new 'Marine Corps Pledge"?

I don't think we will cut and run. i think it will be more of a orderly withdraw of our troops. Iraq will fall to the terrorists a few years later. But who knows..
FYI WWII was the last war we used horses. They were used in the phillipines. In WWI we used them in france I believe...not positive on that one though...
