since having my daughter almost 6 months ago my hair had been falling out, and today my doctor told me it was because of the epidural.

I have never heard of an epidural causing someones hair to fall out. But I have heard that some women's hair will fall out after pregnancy because of certain hormones or lack of certain hormones.

I would think about getting a new doctor. During pregnancy it is very normal for your hair to grow faster and get thicker from the increased pregancy hormones. After pregnancy the hormone levels go down, causing you to lose some of that thickness of hair. The epidural has absolutely nothing to do with loss of hair. The catheter they put in your back is placed in the dural space of your spine and the analgesic is injected through the catheter. It has nothing to do with the roots of your hair. That's funny though.

No, I don't think it's because of the epidural because I've heard of other women this has happened to and not all of them used epidural. I lost globs of hair too up to 10 months after my son was born. I think it's hormonal.

Yes!!! I have had four epidurals and hate to tell you it is not gonna stop!!
Talk to your Stylist and see what is the best Shampoo and Conditioner for your hair type that would help strengthen your hair.. it won't stop it from falling but it can make what falls out a lot less than what it is now!!

When I asked my doctor the side effects of an epidural she never mentioned that. I would get a second opinion just to be on the safe side.

really? i lost some hair, but i thought that hair loss was just because of the change in hormones. I think lots of people lose hair... do you mean that you are losing more than usual? I guess the doctor would know... right? but that sounds really wierd. what did he/she tell you to do? maybe you should ask another doctor...i am pregnant again, maybe i should look into this more, i wouldnt want to lose too much of my hair, i spent so many years growing it out. let me know what you find out. Good luck.

No and I have had four of them. It does give you some lower back pain at times however! It may still be an adjustment of your hormones due to your fairly recent pregnancy and childbirth!
