What about sign language. I'm an interpreter for the deaf and I taught hearing children to fingerspell and we had a spelling bee in sign. The kids loved it so much we did it a few times.

My Spanish teacher made a game in which everyone was labeled a fruit. Obviously, the fruit was in Spanish.
He had a circle of chairs and people had to race to different chairs when their fruit was called in order to stay in the game. Whoever wasn't in a chair by the end of the round was out.
For example, if I am an uva (grape) and I'm sitting next to a platano (banana) and a fresa (strawberry) and the teacher calls uvas, platanos, and fresas, and there are only two chairs left, I better stop thinking about this question and go run to my chair!
It really reinforced a lot of the vocabulary we were learning at the time. You could use any type of noun, I suppose. Fruits, vegetables, colors, etc.

Bingo.
You can place pictures and use the words in the language you are teaching for them to match to their playing card or you can put the words on the card and give them the words in English to match.
You can also play hangman on the chalkboard, have a spelling bee or play a memory game where you tell the kids a story in your language and then quiz them to see how much they remember.

Bingo was always my favorite when I took spanish class. You have the bingo sheet with english words but say the spanish word and kids have to dot the translation into english. Have a nice treat for them like blow pops or tootsie rolls. Just an example, good luck!

the game "10". everyone forms a circle then you start with one person and they say 0 or 0 1, then when someone is the number 10 they are out. you can either say one or two numbers. like i say 0, then the next person says 1, 2 then the next person can say 3 and so on. (you play going around in a circle) i play it in Spanish class but we say the numbers in Spanish instead of English.

Come up with some sort of a game where you throw a ball around and whoever catches it has to say a word. If they succeed they get to throw it. If not they have to sit down for the rest of the game.

In Spanish class, we did "Persona Misteriosa" (Mystery person). Each student answered questions about their favorites--favorite color, favorite food, etc.--in Spanish. Each day, the teacher would read out the answers to one person's questions, and then gave the first three students who think they knew the answer a chance to guess. The person who guessed correctly first won a prize. If all three guess wrong, then the Mystery person won and gets the prize.

hy roofus! i think i have an ideea...
so i'll try to make it short:
- "who has the hat" - in this game someone begins by saying that he has the hat and he gives it to: i.e. mary, jane, john...etc. and after that asks who has the hat. the one who has the hat is the one who speaks first (you must not tell this rule in the begining) and after that he does it from the begining and starts "giving the hat" and asking. and the point of the game is that the kids must find out the rule (that the one who speaks first has the hat). in this game you are the supervisor who tells if the kids are right or not.
good luck!
