I've lived here for 2 years and I'm moving. I've met some truly great people here but if I had to speak generally, I'd say this part of the country is truly the most unwelcoming and unfriendly to those that they do not know.

They're in denial about Boston being kind of a sucky area. That Big Dig thing represents Boston the best. Just a half-assed job that everyone's too proud to scrap completely even though it's going nowhere.

Greygoose is right; the NE is just more brusque; not very laid back at all. It's amazing to go down south where everyone smiles at you and doesn't drive like they are in Grand Theft Auto. Around NYC if anyone takes more then 1 second to do anything they are met with loud sighs and stares and car honks. It does get annoying, even for some of us who live here.

The entire NE is like that; that is the style up there. They are not friendly until you prove you're worth their friendliness. Did you notice how everything moves faster and even when you're in line at the deli in the grocery store they get you in and out and it isn't a 45 minute production? I'd trade a bit of "unfriendliness" for efficiency anyday.

The North has never been known for it's hospitality. Everyone knows the winner for hospitality is the South. Boston has a snoody culture which they are famous for throughout the world. Didn't you hear of that before you moved there?
