You need a 5 gallon bucket, like a drywall bucket, with a lid. put a hole in the lid and put a valve in it where CO2 can escape, but nothing can enter. Perhaps make one from a pill bottle and some plastic tubing like for a fish tank. Take some barley and just let it sprout, but no more, in a warm, dark, place. Roast the barley golden brown or darker in oven. Mash it thoroughly. Put a quart or so of water in a pan, add the malted barley, add hops (there are many kinds varying in bitterness) and add molasses or brown sugar or Karo syrup or corn syrup or maple syrup, or the sweetener that you prefer, and maybe some licorice or other flavorer, and bring it to a boil and back off and simmer, stirring. Put a little over 4 gallons of warm water in the 5 gallon bucket. When cooked for 45 min and cooled somewhat, pour the pan into the water in the 5 gallon. Introduce brewer's
yeast (there are different strains. They are live plants and the water can be warm but not hot.) cover with lid and valve and put in closet to work for a week,
let the yeast make ethyl alcohol or ethanol if you prefer. C2H6. Bubbles with form, CO2 be emitted.
After a week, sugar again, and let it work.
Get a couple or three cases of capable beer bottles.
Twist bottles may explode and make a mess. Up to you. Put one teaspoon of confectioners sugar (fine)
in each bottle using a funnel. Fill each bottle leaving 1" or so. Cap. Shake a little to mix sugar. The sugar will carbonate, and oversugaring causes explosion.
Put in warm dark a month, shaking each slightly each week. Cool, and drink. There are many beer supply stores around, see Yahoo Local.
Sound good? There are a ton of different vaiations.
You may or may not succeed the first time. I got a kit and did. Superbrau. Good Luck.

Look up a recipe on the internet. Use the following substitutions:

Carboy=Bucket with a lid on it (that isn't too tight)
Barley Malt=Honey
Hops=Grass

That will make something called "Honey Beer", or maybe more appropriately, "Mead".

Happy brewing!!!
