Given how many there are, and that they all fall out I'd say £1 for a healthy one and 20p for a dodgy one. That way you would encourage healthy dental hygiene and blame the tooth fairy for having high standards.

For the first tooth, it's $5 and $1 a tooth after that. Also, don't forget fairy dust!! When my daughter lost her first tooth, my mother-in-law took one of her dolls, wet her foot, put it in glitter and "walked" up the bed to the pillow. It was a pain to wash but the look on my daughter's face when she saw the tooth fairy had been there was well worth it.

$1 per tooth.

Of course, in my house, the tooth fairy FORGOT to leave anything under the pillow the last time my son lost a tooth, so she came the next night with $5 and a note explaining why she hadn't been there the night before. Point is: don't forget.

I still only give a quarter, 25cents. I think it is the idea not the amount that counts and the idea is that you are recognizing the child going through another stage towards maturity. My son knows the truth about the tooth fairy and I still give him the quarter. Sometimes he has to remind me.

and to answer you second question... Yes a buck is a one dollar bill.

I only got a quarter. With inflation maybe $5? That seem like a bit much, though.
