I think one of the biggest problems biblical Christians and other groups have with the idea of gay marriage is that marriage in many cultures and religions has a very specific definition of being between a man and a woman. But many people who do not support gay marriage still think they should have equal rights like everyone else, but not to redefine what is marriage. So why dont gays just call it something else - garriage. It seems simple but would solve a lot of problems.

"Hi mom. Guess what Im getting garried."

Interesting thought...except "garriage" sounds like you're congested and about to hack out phlegm. Otherwise: very cool idea. Still, we tried the whole 'civil union' thing, and those who oppose the idea still got hackles on their neck. It's not just the word causing their paranoid little reactions.
And can't you just see the number of tragic spelling mistakes re: confusion with garage?

Cool, I like that. My thought is, if a religion has a problem with gay marriage, then it's their decision to say they won't allow the marriage in their church. But it is NOT their decision to say what the government allows.

So yeah, a gay couple can't get married in the catholic church. But they can get garried so they can file taxes together, share health benefits, retirement benefits, etc. That's their right. :)

Oooooh, I like Tirya's answer.

To quote myself:
It wouldn't be a special right for gays to be able to marry someone of the same sex. Heterosexuals could do it, too.

Nothing special there.

It will still be a mockery to God because He created us to be fruitful in reproduction, and He said "EVERY man will have his own wife and EVERY woman will have her own husband ", and also in our witness. Gay anything doesn't fit with His plan. In fact He completely destroyed Sodom because of it.
