Just open it youself. At the bottom of itunes(when your ipod is pluged in)there is a picture of an ipod click on it and it gives you options such as opening itunes when you plug in your ipod maybe yours isn't selected. Hopefully that will work, If not check out the apple website it really helps, also if your ipod shows up on itunes(on the right side) after you open it yourself I don't think that their is nothing to worry bout.

Try opening iTunes first. If that doesn't work, disconnect the iPod, restart the computer, reopen iTunes, and try again. Also try using a different USB port (where you plug the iPod cord into the computer) - maybe one port is broken and doesn't recognize the cable. Finally, try reinstalling the iPod software CD that came with your iPod.

open itunes first, then plug the ipod in
if that doesnt work, try resetting the ipod by holding down the play button and the center button at the same time for a few seconds
if that still doesnt work, email apple or go to an apple store, they always help a lot

I've always opened up I Tunes before I plugged in my Ipod. I don't think it automatically opens because you plug it in.
