What issues, problems, and opportunities do the police officers in a city face in their public safety efforts?

budget. not enough cops. Every agency that I have dealt with are always in need of more officers. There are people that call with a burglary report or a stolen vehicle report that get so angry that we cannot send an officer right over, but they have to understand we are limited to a certain number, and they have to deal with in progress emergencies as they occur. On down time is when they can take a "cold" case, usually reports of some kind. I think that is the number 1 issue. There are not enough officers in any given city. and that is controlled by the budget of most cities. I'm not sure what else you're looking for... if you mean crimes? well there's all kinds!

It is not an easy job, but I think they could make it easier on themselves by not alienating vast segments of the population by unfair treatment against various minorities--the LAPD for instance has a history of over 100 years of racist harrassment and outright brutality against Blacks and Hispanics, and then they wonder why people hate them and don't trust the justice system.

dodging bullets isn't my idea of a good time, not to mention that if just one cop screws up it can reflect on the whole department or just cops in general, I know better than the average person, but until the system stops protecting crooked cops the good ones don't stand a chance.

Problems... hmm... my dad's a cop and he's always saying that there aren't enough people to help, like that guy above me said. People are usually to busy to care.
