An atheist is someone who has considered all of the various religious sources of information available to him or herself and then formed a conscious decision that there is no higher power based upon the facts available. Therefore the answer to your question is no, children are not born atheists because they have no cognitive thought to make that assumption.

Listen, God Loves Children. They are protected under God, they aren't considered atheist they just aren't aware of God's presence in their life yet. I myself am a Christian I don't believe an atheist is someone who doesn't know about God, an atheist is someone who has been explained to about God already and they chose whether to believe in God or not. A child must be explained about God and what he has done to save us, if the child consideres this rubbish, then he or she can be considered atheist. Most likely though the child will take on the views of the parent, that's why God loves children because all of them believe in him if they are taught of him at an early age. It's at an pre-teen to adult-hood when a person usually begins considering whether God is real or not.

Religious families generally imprint those values on children at a very young age. Far too young for the child to rationally decide for themselves what religion is.

So I would say no, they are not considered athiest, since they don't have the mental capacity to understand what that means. That's like saying dogs are athiests because they can't understand what religion is. In reality they just don't have the brainpower to understand. The same is true of children that young.

There is a difference between a non-believer and a child. A child has to learn things. If the child does not know, they are innocent. THAT is why it actually says in the bible that all the children will go to heaven when the day of judgement comes.

For the child to be atheist wouldn't the parent have to convince the child that a god does not exist? So it is the same difference, as it pertains to your question...

We baptize them as soon as possible so the influence of Devil is elliminated.

Everyone is born with a knowledge of God. Everyone is also born in sin. Because of the sin, people choose to not accept God sending Jesus as atonement for sin. I don't belive, as a christian parent, that my job is to convince my child that God exists, but rather my job is to lead my child to acceptance of Jesus as her savior. And that is the key - lead. No parent can force a child to become Christian--everyone is born with a free will. I can only show her Jesus and His work He did for us--all of us.

Mmm, well... do you think you have to have heard about the idea of god in order to decide it doesn't exist? Or can you know that something doesn't exist before you even conceive of it? Agnostic would be a better term, I agree, since it literally means "without knowledge".

There is no passage in scripture that speaks of an age of accountability. Since Adam and Eves fall into sin, we are all born sinful in need of a Savior.

Psalm 51:5 Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
