It's YOUR will. Get over it. God has made ANTIDEPRESSANTS for a number of years now. Why you're not on them, I'll never know!

Not necessarily. Get a copy of the book, DEPRESSION-FREE NATURALLY.... by Joan Matthews Larson. She has some ideas that you won't get from a psychologist or psychiatrist. She talks a lot about genetics and how genetics plays a huge role and what you can do about it to start feeling normal.
On the other hand, severe depression can sometimes be a spiritual issue if medication or nutrition doesn't help. Then you'll want to see a priest. Some kinds of severe depression can be caused by what is called an "obsession." That's spiritual in nature. It has nothing to do with psychological obsession.

Depression is an illness that can be treated. Go to a therapist and look into cognitive therapy programs like the Midwest Center for Stess and Anxiety.
Millions of other people suffer depression as well so you are not alone. There is help available for you if you are willing to look for it.
As far as God's will, maybe you had something to learn from the depression but I don't think it would be God's choice to have any of his creatures suffer.

I would just like to say that those of you who answered this question with the words "get over it" have obviously never suffered from real depression. This isn't sadness over losing a girlfriend/boyfriend, this is a chemical imbalance that can occur either because it's hereditary in the family, or you have gone through bad experiences that were traumatic. In some cases, some people can never "get over" their depression. Medication can help, but can also leave you numb. So, please think before you speak and don't answer questions about subjects you don't know anything about.

God gave the human race "Free Choice" a long time ago. Depression like you've described is often caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, and often the right anti-depressant can get you feeling pretty normal. Sometimes bad things happen to good people, that's not God's will. But the condition you've described is not unlike having diabetes, the brain malfunctions and a medication can pretty much keep the person happy and healthy for many years to come. I like to give God credit for making human beings smart enough to fix our bodies when they need repairs. Don't be afraid to talk to your doctor.

I just can't even believe some of the answers I've seen regarding this question.
Holy s..... do you people really think you can just make a decision to not be depressed and somehow magically your fine? Depression is one of the most lethal illness out there.
Sometimes it takes people years to find the right combination of medications that work . Further it is a fact that depression is hereditary. So in closing I feel your pain and I'm quite sure you have sought out help. If not please do so ASAP once you are able to get this condition under control you can start to live and love. I don't think God wants this to be your reality.

I can relate to what you are going through, and I would like to just say I'm so sorry that you are going through that right now. I know the feeling that God doesnt care if you hurt or not. But what I continue to realize is that he does care. He LOVES YOU more than anyone else. God is no . He cries over His children constantly. He feels your pain. Just think, the God who created the universe, compassion, and emotion, can definetly feel what you are going through. It IS possible that you are depressed by human-doing. We brought all this crap into the world. The wars, the plagues. All the things that make us depressed are from humans. God gave us beauty and happiness. He also gave us the ability to go through hard times stronger than you were before. This may sound cliche, but these things ARE TRUE! You can get through this, with God's help. Go to a Church and share this with a priest or pastor. Ask them about God's love for you. My guess is that they know more about it than I do. But I KNOW in my soul that God loves you. I promise you this.

We all have a choice in life. My husband suffered for years from depression because he CHOSE to be depressed. He tried all kinds of drugs and nothing was ever good enough, he tried all kinds of psychiatrists and all they did was give him more drugs. I believe there can be a chemical imbalance in the brain, but I also believe that you can CHOOSE to not be depressed. Belief in God and FAITH will help a whole lot - be thankful for everything and do not forgot to pray!

This could be a medical condition and you need to get professional help. If you're just always down, don't wait on God, He gave you the world and the entire human race. Find something that brings you up. Again not trying to trivalize this, severe depression is serious and needs professional help, but life is what we make it, Fight the good fight!

Gods will is to have no one suffer and pain and suffering will all soon come to an end. Satan the devil is ruling this world and he has made a plethora of problems for mankind including depression. The bible tells us that God will soon step in and end all pain and sorrow on the earth so search for truth and righteousness and you can have peace in this wicked world.

Your depression is caused by your unwillingness to accept life as it is dealt to you. Lots of folks like you seem to belive that you cannot do anything to make your existance better, but in reality, all you have to do is take the first step out of that quagmired pit your mind has put you into and open your eyes to the world around you.
If you have lived with this disease for 20 years and are still breathing, you need to get out more.
