The adult form of chicken pox is Shingles which can affect your nerves and is extremely painful so as there is a vaccination available I would recommend you do that although I don't think that many children contact it now so being exposed is minimal unless you work in the child care field.
UPDATE OF INITIAL ANSWER ABOVE: If you go to the NINDS website you will find out all the info you need including a vaccine to prevent shingles in adults although its not yet widely available. You will also read that it does not kill although you can be more severely affected if you have problems with your immune system!

It is more dangerous as an adult. If you never had the chicken pox, you can get vaccinated against them to prevent potentially getting seriously ill.

I did get the shot, and so far I never got chicken pox. It is best to get it as a kid because you are still growing and young. As an adult you become older and it can become worse.

no it is not necessary to get chicken pox. i have had it and wouldnt wish it on anybody. it hurts if you had chicken pox once and when you get it again as and adult it is called shingles. i have known two people with it and they say it is very very painful. now and days children get a shot to prevent from getting chicken pox which is great.

I don't think parents actually let a child play with another who has chicken pox these days just so they catch it early.

Yes, it is more dangerous when you're an adult. There is a shot you can get for it though.
