You can have cysts in one or both ovaries. Since you have a history of cysts on one ovary, there is a chance you could develop cysts on the other. Make sure that your gyn. keeps a check on both ovaries. The cysts could become tumors. I have polycystic ovaries (multiple cysts on both ovaries) as well as endometriosis. I feel your pain. One thing that I have found that help with the pain is birth control. During the time of my menstral cycle, the cysts were more prone to rupture. If you have had one rupture, you know the pain. Seasonale is a good oral contraceptive. I know you did not as for all of the information, but I thought it might be helpful.

I have pcos (poly cystic ovarian syndrome) and since I've been on the pill (yasmin - orthotrycyclin didn't help me at all)
I haven't developed any cysts in 4 years.
Which with the cramping and pain I haven't missed it.
I know endometriosis is painful (I don't have it) but 2 close friends have it and one of them ended up getting a hysterectomy from her pain; her daughter however is on the pill and is doing awesome.

I believe it possible to get cysts on both ovaries.

Have your doctor check your insulin level. I understand that polyscystic ovaries can be the result of hyperinsulinemia.

Check out www.mayoclinic.com and search for hyperinsulinemia for basic information, and www.hufa.com for basic information on other results of blood sugar imbalances.
