I have been trying for some time to put my thoughts together on the subject of God and what life is all about. Here's what I've come up with so far (I really want your honest input - tell me what you think):

We are living for no reason at all.

We 'became' only because random 'sperm met egg'; a being was formed and it grew to adulthood then passed away - a life-cycle similar to ANY other life-form.

Humans, unlike lower level beings, having the unique ability to analyze, process information, create structures and to control the environment, began to think that our lives MUST have some profound meaning. It could not possibly be merely accidental.

Some were/are afraid that's all there is and so a superior spirit was conjured up to give comfort that we will live on ethereally.

But perhaps it is as simple as: We live, we die, then we become manure - giving nourishment back to the earth so that the circle of life continues.

(BTW - I apologize for this lenghty 'detail', but this is important to me.)

I was raised Christian and eveyone in my family believe in God and attend church regularly . Except my daughter who despite attending parochial schools for many years, has NEVER BELIEVED - even as young as 5 years old she was convinced it a fairytale.

But I thought - Christians know something I don't know or feel and I really wish to know why I'm so different from them.

You're off to a good start, but there's a whole lot of life between being conceived and being manure. That's the part where each of us gets to make decisions that can affect ourselves, others, and our planet. You only get one kick at the can, so make it your best effort.

Good luck.

It sounds like you are searching for a reason for living. That's a good thing. You're thinking. That's the first step.

I think that you are concluding that life has no meaning, therefore we shouldn't dream, conceptualize, ponder the imponderable, conjure up alternative reasons for existence.

May I suggest a small adjustment to your line of thought.

You are absolutely right about everything you say. But, so what? You've figured out that you are a mere speck in this vast wasteland of nothingness.

But, I think that you would agree that you personally are a living, thinking human being who, in spite of himself, has dreams and aspirations.

You must ask yourself why this is so if there is no meaning to life.

I think that it's because over the course of billions of years, humans have developed the ability to conceptualize and to control their environment, unlike other species.

Take this as an opportunity to enjoy your life to the fullest every second of every day. Then, you can die in peace.

I don't really understand if you are leaning to be a religious person or a atheist but all I am going to say to u is that there has got to be a higher being . Yes there was just a random sperm and a random egg that met to create a being but how did that 1 random sperm or random egg even com into existence and before you say oh this this and this happened well then how did those things come to be it couldn't of been a huge colossal coincidence. Just think about that for a while

I don't agree with that. Several "lower level beings" can analyze and process information, as well as create structures. We aren't the only animals with that sort of intelligence.

Almost entirely agree - The only thing I would take issue with is your use of the phrase "... so that the circle of life continues", which to me carries an implication of intention behind the process that I see no reason to believe exists. We do indeed become manure, but not "so that" anything can happen, it's just what happens. Other than that, a rationally justified worldview I'd say :-)

"In the beginnig there was the Word, and the Word was God." Genesis. There it begins. "I am Who I AM!" God had no need to be created for He has always been. In the beginning up to the end. We humans, imbued with free will and the goodness of God, (should we choose to be good), have nothing to fear from God, for God wants you to be happy and safe. It takes a superior being like God, I suppose, to babysit all of us monkeys scurrying around on the floating rock. Look into the Milky Way some clear night, then ask your original question. Listen. The answer WILL come. (Promise!)

Apparently you have noticed that you have a mind that is capable of analyzing, processing, creating, and making all kinds of decisions.

This is not by chance. It was planned by God. He loves you.

His love is so great that He gave you the ability to know Him in a personal relationship.

I was thinking like you not too many years ago. One day I was so mixed up that I just told Him (prayer) that I didn't love Him like I felt that I should. Within two weeks some really upsetting things started to happen in my life. I began to know that I needed Him.

God tells us that the way to Him is through His precious Son, Jesus.

Jesus was sent to the earth by God to tell us about God and to become the ultimate sacrifice in our place for our sins.

We all sin. The Bible (God's Word to us) says that we are born with a sinful nature. Jesus has never sinned although tempted in every way.

Salvation is a free gift from God because of His love for us. He tells us that we must accept His Son, Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior and repent (turn away from) sin.

May God bless you and show you how to have this relationship with Him. I would suggest that you read the Bible starting with the Gospels. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Listen as He talks to you.

That's a typical atheist beliefs. If you where true atheist then as someone has mentioned above then there is no cycle, ie) animals can become extinct. Do you really believe that everything happens for no reason at all? Everything, including your life is some random meaningless event? Personally I find atheism to be very depressing.

I give you kudos for exercising your mind, but I'm afraid I too must give you a poor mark for your effort.

Just re-read what you wrote and then ask a single word question----Why?

Better and more learned men than I have, from times beginning, contemplated the existence of man. they have many great and interesting theory's but they all have a common requirement.

They require that you believe that man is capable of such understanding----THAT, in my opinion, is the key to your question.

You, nor I, nor any great philosopher will EVER understand the true meaning of life because we are mortal and were "created"---we were not our OWN creators, and so, to suppose that we have the intellectual capability to understand the reasons and the process of creation and existence is futile and smells of obscene and laughable vanity.

Keep searchin!

I think you are a realist and will live a life making the most of the time you have. We can live on in the memories of others and in the good we do for others. Life is scary, but a god is not needed to deal with it if you have common sense.

That sounds like the weak anthropological arguement. Weak not meaning invalid or anything but there's a strong arguement that doesn't really work. Anyways basically you're saying the only reason we question our existence is because we can. I can't really agree or disagree though because part of me wants to say its for a reason and another part of me says its all a big crap shoot. So I realize I'm not answering your question but I'm sorry for all the negative responses you are most likely going to get. Peace and love.
