MARK 4:10-12 But when He was alone, those around Him with the twelve asked Him about the parable. And He said to them, "To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables, "so that'Seeing they may see and not perceive, And hearing they may hear and not understand; Lest they should turn, And their sins be forgiven them.' "

If he was alone how did some one ask him about the parable?

Also can a person surrounded by 12 people be considered alone?

See, this is why I can't get into the bible.

Too many contradictions

OH, I THINK I GOT IT!

I've read this like ten times and think that it means that even though you can see and hear reality, you will not know the kingdom of god unless you give up on facts and have faith in god even though there is no evidence. Once your mind is full of make believe, you will have your sins forgiven.

Is that close?

Read all of that section not just a couple of verses. And consider the whole situation. The Pharisees and scribes were well educated in the words of the Lord and were also well aware of the prophecies concerning the Messiah. They check well into Jesus and the things that had occured and knew he met the specification of the Messiah. They did not want to loss their wealth and popularity and the people were following Jesus which angered them. They began accusing him of being the devil etc and they constantly challenged him. He began to speak in parables to the people as well as the disciples ( in the books Matt. Mk. Lk and John) and spoke them in a way that they could understand. The ones who truly sought the Lord understood these parables and the ones who didn't seek Him would be unable to percieve what was said.

This is easy. It was yet another parable. For those who know Christ, the word has been given them. The outsiders are those that do not believe, do not undertans, they see but dont percieve, hear, but dont understand.

It is further back up by the verses directly proceding, and following.

13Then Jesus said to them, "Don't you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? 14The farmer sows the word. 15Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. 16Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. 17But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 18Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. 20Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown."

V 17, people that trun in times of trouble, V19, people whose lust for worldly things set it aside, V20, people who accept and believe, haning on to it, teach it, they will grow.

Off point, dont just pick and choose verses to suit your needs. The message lies in the whole, not just a few words.

Its a parable about how one recieves the word, and nurtures it, either believing or not.

This is counsel that Jesus is giving that those who are listening dont understand the kingdom of God yet because the Holy Spirit had not been given. The Spirit speaks to the heart and provides truth. Those that were listening (apart from the disciples) would have been following for the wrong reasons and because of misunderstanding. It wasn't long after this that Jesus said to go into all the world and preach the gospel. After Jesus' ascension into heaven and the Holy Spirit had been given, thousands began to hear and believe.
Jesus does forgive and His lessons of the kingdom were meant to be understood, but just not at that time!

So what's your question???

Read the context... he is talking about a parable... read your own writing... you said: "MARK 4:10-12 But when He was alone, those around Him with the twelve asked Him about the parable."

His disciples had the right attitude. They were interested in what Jesus was teaching. Others were not, because they were blinded and had other self interest, so Jesus revealed the parables to his disciples. The latter that you said doesn't make sense at all as to how you would make that conclusion that Jesus doesn't forgive sins. Jesus died for all mankind that through him we may have everlasting life. But one has to have works and faith in order to receive that everlasting life because one without the other is dead.

Read to understand: It says, Those who are OUTSIDE. That includes atheist!! You are not seeking to know the mystery of the kingdom of GOD; you already have your closed off mind made up. So you will never perceive or understand until you turn around ,be open minded and step out on faith!! Try It....

If I were a Calvinist Christian, I would say "yes" to your question, because they believe that certain people are born "predestined" by God to go to either Heaven or Hell (See Romans 8:28-39 & 9:10-29).

The counter-argument is here, at the link below. I don't feel like explaining it, since I assume that you are not really asking a serious question:

If you dont believe Christ is the Messiah, then how would you be able to understand His parables. They may know what He is saying, but wont admit their sins. So how can He forgive if they dont want to acknowledge Him as Lord and Saviour?

I think that Jesus is speaking of faith in these verses. His disciples knew the truth for certain and therefore no longer needed faith (a belief in things not seen). We are here to live by faith and therefore cannot be given a perfect knowledge of things. We will get that when we are in God's presence in Heaven.
