I am a waitress and don't understand why so people just refuse to tip.

I rarely get stiffed but, it is annoying!

You can only guess which person this is directed to.

I am an American for your information. That does not matter. The question is what do you tip? Not what I tip my service people?
I tip a minimum of 25% if he or she if they give good service. I am aware of what most servers get paid per hour. I give 10% to the ones that give horriable service, and don't even come back to refill my drink.

This is directed towards the person who believes his /hers English is impeccable.

As a 25 year veteran of the industry I feel qualified to answer this...

As a rule of thumb you should start at 20%. If the service is lacking...first, you should let a manager know, then, you should deduct accordingly. Less than 10% no matter how bad the service is rude (but then so are some servers).

If the service is exceptional...first, you should let the manager know, then, you should reward the server accordingly. I have tipped as much as 40% when I've had exceptional service.

I really wish more people knew the ettiquette of tipping.

Honestly and not being rude... people are fickle about tipping and so many factors play into it. You phrased your question in a way that shows you don't speak english well. If you are american you have your answer. But since your probably not you need to learn the american way of service and friendly at the same time which most other cultures simply don't get. This is one of those questions that begs for more specifics.

I believe ten percent is quite enough for what they do. In a high priced restaurant a 10% tip can equal 2 to 3 hours of wage at minimum wage and they only had to work what 15 minutes to serve out the food and fill glasses.
