God says your body is a temple for the Lord and it should not be marked or defiled.

Looking at the context, I don't think tattoos were prohibited because it was wrong to put pretty pictures on your body, but for other reasons. Tattoos in those days were extremely dangerous and could result in injury, disease, or death. Also, there was a pagan ritual in which one would put tattoo marks on oneself for the dead, in order to be protected against the spirit world and the wrath of other gods. So the reason for the passage is two-fold. One, as a practical measure to keep people safe and healthy. Two, as a prohibition against worshiping false gods. Now we're told that we should follow the spirit of the law over the letter since following the letter of the law doesn't always make sense in all situations (see Jesus' example in the NT). Thus, if you're getting a tattoo from a clean place and for aesthetic reasons, I don't believe it would be a sin.

I don't think getting a tatoo is a sin, but I think it is a bad idea. Before getting one, ask yourself these questions: Is this a good idea or something I am just doing on a whim? (Give yourself a few days to figure it out.) Will I still think this was a good idea when I'm 45? What will it look like when I am older -- like 80? Will I regret it as soon as I get it?
Tattoo removal is painful and leaves an ugly scar. Make sure you really want it before you get one.
My biggest question when I see someone who has a lot of tattoos is "Why?"

Fairly certain getting a tattoo is not a sin. Some thing it's defiling the Lord's temple. I feel that as long as one is not covered heat to toe in them or strategically puts them where others can "admire" or gawk, possibly causing them to lust them, then they are in the wrong.

Do what you want but I'm telling you right now, some day you will regret it! Especially when you're 80 or so and your tattoo looks like a bird crapped on your arm.

I don't know that it is a sin, but in biblical times tattoos were a mark of either slavery or imprisonment.

Because........
You are hurting your body getting it. And Do you really need a reason? God told the people no, do you question his word? There is a reason for all, whether you agree, or can not see the reason. Either way there is one, and even if there wasen't God said no. So no!
