Anything you use on your hair with heat will damage your hair. When using heat tools be sure to use a balm or serum made especially for protection on your hair. And don't straighten often. BUt a good one is one with a ceramic hot plate.

Are you talking chemical? Then go for a MILD - you can find it at most beauty supply stores - or you can do the Japanese straightening system (very pricey, but worth it too, according to my friend who now LOVES her hair!)

If you're talking about heated, then I suggest the MaxiGlide. It's a bit pricey, but worth every penny - and it does the LEAST damage.

They all damage, but the ceramic ones do the least damage.

They all damage your hair, especially if you blowdry. I've heard good things about the Chi ceramic.

some great kinds are jade, onyx, and ceramic. be careful - alot of straighteners claim they have ceramic plates, when in fact they only have ceramic COATED plates. if youre going to go with ceramic, you need to make sure that the plates on the straightener are solid ceramic.
