Would you still believe in "god"? Would there be a point to still believing in "god"? I'm especially curious to see what agnostics have to say, since they believe in god, but not religion. In other words, what's the point to believing in a God, if not for the afterlife?

Good F'in lord people! Try using that supposedly-God-designed brain you have to actually think instead of reciting Bible talking points.

Is afterlife essential to the belief in God? IS it possible to have a God if he/she doesn't promise life after death?

I'm sorry. This obviously does not belong in Religion and Spirituality. I'll repost it in a philosphy section. Hope everyone enjoyed their 2 free points, because the answers up to the time of this edit were pathetic. I should have seen that coming.

I am agnostic, and I do not believe in God, I just won't say that God doesn't exist as there is no evidence to show that. I don't know if there is or isn't an afterlife, and I won't know until I am dead. What I think you are talking about is Religion being a means through which to attain spiritual "currency", which is something I believe is evil.Good question.

Even if there were no afterlife, we could give thanks to God for giving us what we got. Since it is all a gift, we have no room to complain with what we get.

I seem to think that if there is NO AFTERLIFE that does not make a difference. We should live as good of lives as we can while here on Earth regardless of Heaven and Hell.

My theory is that Heaven and Hell are just different aspects of life here on Earth, but that there is also a Heaven. As for Hell, I don't think that God can put ANY OF HIS CHILDREN through eternal damnation. If you want to burn, become a firefighter, and it might happen,. There is more than enough Hell on Earth, thank you very much. God loves all his children and wants them back in Heaven to see them from time to time. He is a noble and just host and a great provider. Please go forth and do the same.

The biggest word in your question is IF. What IF there was no afterlife? How will we know in this life IF that is true. IF we assume there is a God our actions will follow accordingly. IF we believe we have an opportunity to live eternally in another life---what have we to lose IF we believe. IF we are wrong we really haven't lost anything. IF we are wrong we may not have what the "world" considers fun, but IF we are right---the world has lost an opportunity to go to the biggest wedding ever.

" if heaven and hell decide
that they both are- satisfied,
illuminate the 'no's' on their 'vancancy' signs...
if there's no one beside you -
when your soul imparts,

then i'll follow you into the dark."

i'm a christian....... i guess there really would be no reason in believing in God if not for an afterlife. but, if there were no afterlife... there would be no God.

take that back- God helps you through tough times, comforts you, helps you make that right choices, and desires a relationship with everyone.

if there's no afterlife, it's all a matter of faith

listen to these other people, there are some really good answers!!

Well, you don't know if there's an afterlife until you die. Personally I'd prefer reincarnation to an afterlife. Living is more interesting than spending eternity in reflection of one life. If there's no afterlife then it won't matter cuz I'll be dead. This is the very reason you have to make your mark while you can. This might be your only chance.

What if there was no life what so ever, would there be any point to believing in anything? You can "what if" all you want, it's not real and has no significance. People are going to believe what they want to, what their hearts and conscience tell them to believe. Why does it seem so important to everyone that everyone else believe just as they do? Are there so many people that are so confused about their own beliefs that they feel that they can only validate themselves by convincing others that their way is the only way?

There is a heaven where God and angels reside in it. There is no hell except the grave in which you are going to. There is a resurrection. Eccl 9:5 "the dead are concious of nothing at all...", so you are basically like sleeping. When Jesus resurrected Lazarus he was dead for 4 days. You would think if he had been to either heaven or hell he would have said something. He was dead!

if you really believe there is no need to ask this question. if you believe that there is God and there happens to be no afterlife then it means you have done good for good in the world there is a purpose it is not a waste of time.

I figure if there is no afterlife then there is no current life or life at all. So I am pretty sure there is a afterlife. I think we are unable to conceive what it is like due to our human limitations.

It's not about us. We were created to honor and glorify God.
I'd still believe in Him.
Let me ask you this do you only like people or support people who cater to your every need? Do you do things only for those who do for you first?
I personally believe that their doesn't have to be anything in return. Now, saying all that. There will be a heaven and a hell and depending on who we place our faith will depend on where we end up.
