dipped...
Luke 11:38 But the Pharisee noticed that Jesus did not wash before the meal. He was surprised.
The same Greek word is used here and commonly translated "wash." It was a common word which meant to dip or immerse. It was a common part of Jewish ritual, so the early Christians understood it. Jesus commanded it for his followers: Mt 28:18 Then Jesus came to them. He said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 So you must go and make disciples of all nations. Baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And you can be sure that I am always with you, to the very end.”
It is the way we get "into Christ." Ro 6:3 All of us were baptized into Christ Jesus. Don’t you know that we were baptized into his death?
...and thus the way we receive the blessings which are in him: Eph 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
Jesus' command was repeated to those who heard the first Gospel sermon: Ac 2:38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Baptism is an outward expression of an inward confession.
After you have accepted Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior you get baptized as a way of showing the world. Baptism symbolizes the burying of the old (dead) person and the arising of the new person (born again).
Where as baptism is not absolutely necessary to get into heaven it is a good thing as a confession to the world that you are a new creation in Christ Jesus your Lord.

Baptism means to be immersed in the water in a symboic gesture of faith. It means to show that you are willing to follow Christ and be a witness for him. Baptism is symbolic of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. When we are baptized, our sins are washed away. When we go into the water our old selves, our sinful selves die and are buried and then we come back out of the water as a new person without sin and committed to follow Jesus Christ.
People are baptized when they are ready to accept Jesus Christ and repent of their sins. Scriptures tell us that we should go into baptism with a broken heart and a contrite spirit. Some churches teach that baptism should be performed as an infant. Our church teaches that children are incapable of committing sin, and that one should not be baptized until they are capable of judging right and wrong and can make their own choices. In our church we believe that most children who have reached the age of eight are capable of that level of reasoning. Therefore, you should get baptized when you are ready to commit to follow Jesus Christ.
People need baptism so that they can be cleansed. No unclean thing can enter the presence of God. Baptism is also a way of showing that we are willing to be obedient to God. Through entering the waters of baptism, we enter the gate that giives us access to the path that leads to eternal happiness and glory. Through the ordinance of baptism and following Christ we can return again to live with God.

Latin baptizer - to dip in water.
Thus, baptism requires full immersion into water, symbolism of death of the old self (burying by going down) and resurrection of the new creation (going up out of the water).
Infant baptism is not really baptism because you cannot fully immerse an infant into the water. Water is sprinkled on the infant's head.
Water-sprinkling is NOT baptism.

baptism is to show the public that you are a beliver in Christ.
Once you have asked for salvation, the Bible tells to be baptized, which by definition is total emersion. it represents the death, burial, and resurection. Jesus died, was burried, then rose again. Baptism shows the world that you have put the old person behind you, and are comming back as a new person with love for Christ.

Baptism is done in many different ways, but what it really means is that you are identifying with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.
Some sprinkle water on a person's head.
Some fully immerse the entire body into water.
The actual meaning of "baptisto" is full immersion into water.
People do this not for salvation, but in obedience to share that they are believers and are stepping out in that obedience in witness to the fact that they have already trusted Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.

Catholics believe:
Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments.
Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water and in the word."
With love in Christ.

In Mathew Chapter 28 Jesus commands his disciples, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
When we recognize Jesus as the Lord and Savior a miracle has taken place in our hearts and we will be saved. We go to be baptized because our Lord has commanded it. Baptism is the symbol that the change of salvation has taken place in our hearts. You should get baptized as soon as you recognize that this change has occurred in your life. Some argue that Christians don't need to get baptized, but the Bible makes it clear that this is an important act of obedience. 1John 3:24 Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

Baptism symbolizes being born again. It is a way to show the world that you have accepted Christ as your saviour, and the washing away of sins. If you have confessed your sins to God and asked Jesus into your life, and you strive to follow Jesus, then you are saved through your faith and by the grace of God. You will not go to hell if you are not baptised, but you will be blessed for it. We will never be perfect, but we need to always try, and when we fall short, (every day) we need to ask God for forgiveness in Jesus's name, and He will forgive us. God bless you!!!!

There are two meanings to the word baptism. One is to be emmersed in water and quickly drawn back up. The other is to have emmersion and be left in...that is what happens when the spirit of God indwells his people.
