Also, if anyone can find some good websites about Maryland Beaches, I would appreciate them. I did a quick seach and got very little information.

If you're looking for the ocean, then you have to cross the Bay Bridge. Don't even think of doing it on a nice weekend in the summer...you can wait in line for a LONG LONG time. Try during the week.
If all you want it a beach, the closest one, which I love, is Cape Henlopen State Park It's wild and wonderful and not crowded, if that's what you're looking for.

which is just outside of Lewes, Delaware...a sweet historic town with cute shops and good restaurants. There is a snack bar at the beach, but I always bring a cooler.

About 30 minutes farther down Route 1 (Ocean Road) is Rehobeth....about 2 1/2 hours from D.C. This is more a tourist town with tourist shops, restaurants, boardwalk and a smaller more crowded beach.
Continue driving and you will hit Dewey Beach, and finally Ocean City, which is a 3 hour drive at least. Crowded, a large boardwalk, fun.
Here's a link to maps of the different beaches to orient you a bit.

Then there is the Chesapeake Bay. From D.C. you can be at Breezy Point in less than an hour. It's not the ocean, but I like it. There's an entrance fee. But, you can look in the sand and shoreline for prehistoric shark's teeth, go fishing, cookout, etc.
http://www.co.cal.md.us/visitors/beaches/ It's an easy trip there and back , and if you go during the week, you'll have the place to yourself.
Whatever you decide to do, have fun!

It's about 2 1/2 - 3 hours to the Maryland beaches from the DC area. This, of course, also depends upon how bad the traffic is. The traffic is a BIG factor in everything you do around the DC area. Check out Ocean City, MD and Rehoboth Beach, DE.

Ocean City is a great place. The beach that all the young professionals of DC visit is Dewey Beach. There are awesome bars there and the atmosphere is fun fun fun! If you are looking for something a little different, check out Assateuge Island. It's only 10 miles South of Ocean City. The island has wild horses on it that are really cute! It's definitely a place to visit! I went camping there a few years ago. It was tons of fun there...

I live in the Annapolis area, so I should be able to help you. The enjoyment of your *day* trip will depend on the *day*. I would recommend a weekday for traffic reasons as well as hotel cost (if you decide to stay overnight). Location: Ocean City (MD), Rehoboth and Dewey Beaches (DE). OC is traditional with a boardwalk and plenty to do. Rehobeth has the added benefit (?) of outlet shopping. Dewey is smaller and seemingly particularly gay-friendly. Web sites include www.ococean.com, www.rehoboth.com, www.beach-fun.com, and www.townofdeweybeach.com. Also recommended: Cape Henlopen State Park (DE). Good luck and enjoy your day at the beach!

Yes it is,The geography that the Dewey Beach real estate market enjoys makes this spot a popular choice for Delaware home buyers who are looking for partygoers as well as those who are looking for family fun. Dewey Beach Delaware lies on a small strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and Rehoboth Bay, is about one mile long and only two blocks wide.

Check out lesser-known Delaware beaches. Bethany is nice. Fenwick Island (which is really a peninsula) has cheap lodgings.
