Speech therapy can be VERY helpful for SOME kids. It depends what your child is in speech therapy for. Depending on the issue, sometimes it may take months to see progress. If you aren't seeing progress, ask the therapist to update you on what they have been working on and what progress he/she has observed. If she can't tell you specifically what they have been working towards and what progress has been made, it is time to get a different speech therapist.
Good luck!

Hi there. My 4 year old son is also in speech therapy. Don't get discouraged if you don't see a difference yet. I didn't either at first, but its because I see and talk to him every day. Ask other people who don't see him that often, like other family members or freinds. They will more easily be able to tell if there has been any progress. My family has all said that the therapy is working. :) Good luck

They want my 21month old son to go to therapy I think that young is stupid.. so I am doing some things at home that I have read up on.. I know that four months is not a whole lot of time to make a assumption so I would go for a year and see what happens then.. My 9 yr old has been in speech when he was kindergarten, 1st grade into 2nd and those three y ears really made a difference..

i'm a professional interior the field yet i do no longer have a bias in any route, I only educate. I honestly have adventure with many techniques (about 10 years) and that i'm looking the most fulfillment with the Verbal habit sort. It has an ABA base it truly is the technology in the back of the technique (utilized habit diagnosis) however it isn't as "old college" or inflexible as Descrete Trial training from the days of Dr. Lovas. I honestly have numerous appreciate for the TEACCH sort of UNC Chapel Hill besides. the perfect procedure is to allow the experts on your son's existence to provide options. Early intervention is the foremost. See what he useful with and tweak what isn't operating. If he has a languagecommunication barrier and signal or %. are stated do no longer be scared that those techniques will avert speech - study shows that this isn't the case. i'm hoping this enables. best of success to you and your relations God Bless...

it took my daughter a few of years to finish speech therapy. She started as a kindergartner, and this is her first year without speech and she in the fourth grade. It's gonna take time. just be patient.

Talk to your childs Speech Pathologist (therapist). Find out what they are doing and ways you can help. My 9 yr old took speech for 3 yrs at school... this last year I didnt notice any change, its because they werent pulling him from class for speech. My 4 yr old daughter started this year too. Because she wasnt in school I had to drive her... I noticed a big difference because I sat in on a speech session and learned ways to help her.... If they dont want you sitting in... find another speech path. They cant refuse your attendance... It is your child....

If you are concerned about his progress, ask for a report detailing the methods the therapist uses and what results he/she has seen from those methods. If you need help interpreting the report, take it to your child's pediatrician. If you are still not happy with the progress (or lack of it), try a different therapist.
