yes, isome instances black/dark colour can give the illusion of a smaller space, dependant on how much light/windows are in the room .eg if you put a dark colour on a window facing wall the light negates the illusion vice versa if on the window wall, you can vinnette a wall by creating light at the bottom getting darker as it reaches the ceiling, darken the cieling in the same final colour, add som e l.e.d's in varios sizes . hey presto a starry night all day long.

Yes it does. Not only does it make a room look smaller, but it's also hard to paint over. If your going to paint your room black go all out, use black on the walls and ash grey on your trim and celling. Also, use a little white to high light certain things such as your light switch and things of that sort, get creative.....the color black makes a bold statement.

lots of good answers.black makes the room appear smaller because the black absorbs the reflected light.it's the reflected light which gives the impression of space.paint one of the four walls a very light color and it will seem as if that wall is further from the center of the room because of the reflected light.to leave the walls black,use a lighter color and trim the ceiling and floor edges.that will give you more appearance of space as it gives something for the light to reflect from.

Worked for a paint company designing paint formulas. The answer is definitely yes. If you must use dark colors, chose an accent wall but leave the rest a light color

Yes, and it's never as cool as you think it's going to be. The black will always show roller marks, and will appear grey with any light on in the room. Unless you use a super gloss finish, but then if you paint it black I'm betting you're not looking for glossy.

yes...if you want to make it looks wider, choose soft bright color, dark color only make the room look smaller
