It likely is because you are breast feeding.
There are a few possibilities:
1) if you do not fully empty the breast some milk ducts may become clogged and that is very painful. the pain may vary from a throbbing to a sharp almost slicing sort of pain.
2) sometimes it is possible to get an infection in one of the milk ducts. it doesn't happen frequently and is more harmful to you than the baby (so don't freak out).
try to track how often you feel the pain... if there are any triggers or particular time of day that it happens. If it happens all of the time it is more likely it is clogged or infected than you need to call the DR.
I used to get a similar feeling if I had not fed the baby in a while and was getting backed up...
I hope this puts your mind at ease.
Also: good for you for breast feeding your baby. My first baby could not be breastfed because of a milk disease but my third baby was never sick. I thought he had a cold that the older two had the week before but it was a runny nose for 1/2 of a day. I can't tell you all the wonders of the breast milk.

I had this problem too. I have a strong let down...no thrush here. I worried that it was thrush. Doctors said nope. It would happen when I was at work too. I would talk to my husband who was watching the baby. And at the same time I was having breast pain, she was having her bottle. I started making sure that if it happened at work that I would go pump as soon as possible. With baby, I would feed her. By the beginning of 3 months, it went away. I guess it is natures way of letting you know time to feed baby when you starting out.

It is possible that you pulled a muscle while feeding. It could also by thrush which causes infectionn within the tissue of the breast and will eventually get really sore. You may need to get breastfeeding anti-biotic creame for this. Talk to your doctor and ask the ladies at incitefulmoms.com

It is probably because you are breastfeeding. I had the same problem and figured out that some of my ducts were getting clogged. All I had to to was squeeze the nipple until it was released. It really only looked like a very very tiny white rock. Blew my mind, but I felt way better.

That could mean that you have a strong let down or you could have thrush. Go to your doctor and get it checked out. Thrush needs to be treated and will get worse if left untreated. I had that same sharp feeling too with both my babies and had thrush.

Can you describe the pains better?
Some moms notice a tingly sensation when they have letdown. Reminds you of pins and needles.
If you are having sharp, shooting pains in your breast, that could be thrush.

try to massage toward the nipple as you nurse (or pump) - could be a plugged duct or something. watch for mastitis : more info at: www.mayoclinic.com/health/mastitis/DS00678

it's breastfeeding, that one breast may be more filled and need to release, if you have a pump use it!
