Oh, this is a great question. I happen to come from a family where the 'elder women' believe strongly that you should chop it off. My grandma and her sisters all have the same short permed, 'do's'. They even went so far as to force my great grandma into chopping off her ankle length hair, it was sooooooooo pretty. I fought back, I have always had long hair and will until I am physically unable to brush it. LOL. My mom and her cousins started cutting there hair short, following the trend about 12 years ago. Then at a gathering they finally talked and none of them liked it, they thought that was how it should be. Well, twelve years later I see they have all let it grow out, they look younger and prettier.
I have to vote for keeping your hair as you want it. We all grow old anyway, why do we have to look it?

I kinda thought older women tend to cut it short because it's not as full as it used to be; so if you can get away with it (meaning keep it longer) and still look good, then by all means, do it. Over 50, a woman isn't expected so much to have longer hair, but I gotta think if she does, it's gives her 10 years of youth and appeal.

I think it depends upon the woman. With age, the skin begins to sag and facial features can droop. For some, this happens very early. Having hair that is too long seems to pull the face down and make this aging more noticeable. Short hair doesn't make someone look older. In general, it is more flattering after a certain age. With that said, wear your hair however you wish. The only one you need to please is YOU!!

Seems all women late 40s and early 50s cut their hair and it makes a woman in my oppinion look their age why not defy that standard and leave the hair the way you want it, I know people who want to change the way they look sort mid life thing but there are ways to change a persons hair with out chopping it all off.

If a woman is over the age of 50, why would she do something to look OLDER? I'd want to look YOUNGER. If you're not comfortable with short hair, don't cut it short.

My mother is 55 and she keeps hers short...she tried to grow it out once, and it looked horrible. I love my momma but she needs to stick with the short hair! It makes her look younger!

I think you can have any kind of hair that works on you and anything you are confortable with. I love short hair, but I am a small person, so it looks better on me, long hair is nice too.

I would say medium to short hair unless they are ageing well, other wise it tends to make them look older than they are, a younger more up to date style looks better.

Yeah, I don't see that I am going to cut my hair much when I am 50. I am 34 now. I think if you have long hair you just need to style it 'classy' and not have it too long.

Depends on how you feel about it,if,like you said you do not like short hair, then leave it long. Many people actually find that long hair keeps them looking and feeling young.
