Lazy as in they havent really read the book they think has the answers?
By "lazy" I mean most Christians could not have possibly read the Bible and still say that it is the unerring word of God......unless you think that God is a psychopath that condones mass killing, rape, slavery, mutilation, etc. Secondly, it doesn't take much effort to realize that the savior motif has a history in many religions and mythology hundreds or evern thousands of years prior to Christianity.....heck it's even in Egyptian hieroglyphs. In fact there is not one idea that is original in Christianity except that after a few hundred years it was made be literal for power and control. I won't even go into all the forgeries and atrocities required to "spread" the word.
Besides all that.....let's just think for a moment:

Why would it be necessary for an omnipotent, omniscient God to send himself to Earth as a baby, suffer, die, and resurrect so that the sins of his creation would just need to believe in him for everlasting life vs. everlasting punishment? Does this really make sense to you? Do have any idea how large the Cosmic is? Do you know that the scapegoat is a very ancient tribal concept where all sins are transferred magically to an animal which is then sacificed (as if God needs a sacrifice to be pleased)?
I'm not trying to put anyone down. I just wish more people go beyond what has been drilled into their heads since they were little children. Children eventually find out about Santa, but for some stange reason adults rarely find out about Christianity.

Yeah, that sounds exactly right.
Why would a god who created a vast cosmos spend so much time worrying about the inhabitants of some dumpy little planet? Why would he send his son to this dumpy planet?
To save a bunch of jerks who will kill his son?
How does that do anyone any good?
He sends his sons as a diplomat.
The people he sent his son to talk to then turn around and kill the kid.
Then god says 'Congratulations, you now have eternal life.'
Where is the logic in that?

Some, maybe. I am when I sit here on Yahoo answers instead of doing the laundry.
I am not, in that I have read the Bible, twice through. It does not condone those things. Your right about the Savior motif, many religions looked to Saviors long before Christ. I am aware of the atrocities, and most, no almost all attributed to the control the Cathiloc church wanted to excert on its people.
Yes, it makes sense. I have not taken this as something I was taught as a child. I have doubted and questioned and sought out answers. I have done the work it took to reconcile, and find, anything contridictory by religion, and have formed my own opinion. Where I am in belief to work to get me here, I am not lazy, by any means.
Except when it comes to laundry.

I've read the Bible and studied it deeply for 30 years. It has been proven over and over historically and archelogically. The reason there are so many copy cat religions or cults, is that humans have tried to corrupt the original Truth from the beginning of time. There are so many that have the same ideas but in a twisted way because man wants to be in charge. Man doesn't like the idea of someone being over him. So he changes the original story to suit himself. But where in life is there not always someone over you? In the job, in your country, in anything you do, there is always someone over you. Where else are you going to get the love that is so perfect except from God? It is true that many, in the name of Christianity, have done evil but that does not make God evil. Even if I was wrong, I would rather live this lie than the emptiness that is out there. I did not become saved until I was almost 30. I lived the other side. My heart rejoices over the love, protection and guidance that the Lord blesses me with daily. I get answers to my prayers, I see miracles and my whole way of looking at life is so different. I was selfish before and still fight that but now I see that it is better and more fun to care for others before myself and to consider the needs of others and to meet those needs is so freeing. I am no longer the center of my universe and my life is so full. Take all of that, add in the blessings He pours on me daily, and you have a life of joy in the midst of this world and eternal life with Him to look forward to. I'm sorry you are so hardened against God. He loves you.

Well obviously you didnt' read the Bible and you missed the whole point of salvation. God sent Jesus to die for us because He loves us. Jesus came to fulfill the law meaning we are not condemned to the law. Now Jesus has died for us and we are covered by grace. What does that mean? Well our old motivation was law says this that and the other. The new command is to love God, love others as you would yourself. If you love you wouldn't commit the Ten Commandments or do anything to harm anyone like lie, cheat, steal, emmbezzle, rape, murder, slanderize, gossip, cut someone off on the freeway, say hurtful things about other people, judge others of their looks and so on. Well we have been doing it since the beginning of time and we still do it today, the difference is that Jesus gave us an easier way of starting over by covering us with Grace. God looks at the heart, not what we do or don't do.

Interesting perspective and well said. I think it's that they just cannot come to the terms with the fact that everything they have learned and been taught since childhood could be (and in my opinion) is wrong. Much like Piaget's Theory of Cognitive Development. All of us develop naturally to different stages of cognition. I think some people get stuck along the way and never move on. Much like never reaching "enlightenment" in some of the other religions. I think it is just a lack of cognitive ability. The Christian Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven lies within you.
Everyone is not equal. Some people are just smarter than others and have the ability to think things through on their own.

It is true that many christians have not read the whole Bible but instead rely on their ministers to read and interpret it for them, however, many of us have read it. I have read it over and over again many times. I do however, respect what pastors have to say if they have studied Hebrew and Greek - the original languages of the Bible. There are words in these languages that are difficult to translate into English. For instance, there are many words in Greek for the word love, but when it is translated into English in the Bible, it just says love without telling us if it is the unconditional love, sexual love, or friendship love. Some people do not read the whole Bible because they are unable to interpret it or understand it without someone else's help. The Bible even says that some are given the gift of interpretation. That is why some people become pastors.
To understand the Bible, one also has to have an understanding of the cultures of times it was written and then try to apply that to today.

I think maybe you are lazy. I don't believe that you have read nor understand God's Word because if you had you would not be trying to blame man's sins on God. Romans 5: 12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: God has given man a choice to do good or to do evil. He has also given His Son to die for the sins of the world if only they would believe and trust in that then God would forgive their sins. Don't reject his payment for your sins or one day you will stand before Him and answer for all your sins and then you not be blame Him for your miss guidance but you will be asking for mercy. 1 Corinthians 15: 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1 Corinthians 15: 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Romans 4: 25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

You clearly "think" you have read The Bible. I have been of the Christian Faith for just over 6yrs and I have yet to read The Bible compleatly. And I most likely will not get through it all in what is left of my mortal life.
I did not even own a Bible when I came To God and The Christian Faith at the age of 53.
I do not read The Bible to confirm any thing. I read The Bible to better understand what God has already given me. He has already given me all that I need to get into Heaven.
That is His unbreakable promise to me in The Truth of my Salvation.
I can state with absolute cetainty that you have no true understanding of The Bible.
I can also tell you that no one of The Christian Faith will ever make the claim that they fully understand it... It is not required for any one to fully understand it... it is required for all to come to God in The Way He proscribes... That is what get's you into heaven....
read The Bible all you want... it aint going to do you a bit of good untill you come to God as he has provided.
You can stop trying to use your misunderstanding of The Bible to attack those of the Faith... it has no effect upon us. We KNOW The Truth.

Personally I think grouping an entire group of people together under one heading is lazy.
Some Christians are "lazy" in the sense you say, but that's true of people of many faiths, and even atheists. I've met atheists that cant really talk about their spiritual belief with anything more than "I just don't, that's all"
I personally am a Neo-Pagan. I read, study, and consider many religions, and I like to learn about them and talk about them. And I have met many Christians that not only know exactly why they think what they think, but also can talk about it.
