Well, that's a very good question. Some 'christians' use only selected parts of the bible, taken out of context, to support their hatred. When they preach bigotry, discrimination and therefore violence against gay people, how can they possibly call themselves 'christian,' when these thoughts-words-actions completely go against their teachings? WWJD?
Fortunately I have met good Christians who work for peace, justice, equality and tolerance. They are in the majority in real life, but here in Yahoo Answers, sometimes they get shouted down by the hate-spewing minority.
God made me gay, and God doesn't make junk. :o)

Well you picked easy to answer examples really... The Bible condones slavery because that was the only way to earn an income if you were not a craftsman or already rich. The Bible however does not condone misstreatment of slaves. Adultery is punishable by death in the Bible, yet pretty much accepted by Christians and easily "forgiven" solely because so many people do it. Sabbath and dietary laws were in preparation for the coming Messiah now that He has come, they are no longer nessisary. Homosexuality along with adultery, beastiality and witchcraft is punishable by death in The Law.. and ALSO covered under Grace in the New Covenant. I personally don't hold one sin worse than another though I admit some things are harder to handle for me (Id rather eat with an adulterer than with a murderer) but they are all the same to God. Equally bad and equally forgivable. Not all Christians bash gays, some are realistic and know they themselves are no better than anyone else.

I think the reason Christians pick on the homosexual agenda is because it is the biggest threat to them. If adulterers were forming organizations and demanding that there lifestyle is being deprived of there rights. I'm just saying that Homosexuals are the ones going to court and the such to make or defend there lifestyle as acceptable. Wheather you agree with that or not, that is the way I see it. I mean if NAMBLA or other types of people with different lifestyles were struggling to be heard, I'm sure Christianity would go after them as well.

1Corinthians 6:9-11
1Co 6:9 Don’t you know that evil people will not receive God’s kingdom? Don’t be fooled. Those who commit sexual sins will not receive the kingdom. Neither will those who worship statues of gods or commit adultery. Neither will men who are prostitutes or who commit homosexual acts. 10 Neither will thieves or those who always want more and more. Neither will those who are often drunk or tell lies or cheat. People who live like that will not receive God’s kingdom. 11 Some of you used to do those things. But your sins were washed away. You were made holy. You were made right with God. All of that was done in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
Read Verse 11. It is NOT permanent!
Mike: Sunday is NOT THE SABBATH. The laws concerning the sabbath are like the rest of the law. It was ALL set aside at Jesus' death.
Ephesians 2:15 Through his body on the cross, Christ put an end to the law with all its commands and rules. He wanted to create one new group of people out of the two. He wanted to make peace between them.

The Bible doesn't speak against all sins. Slavery is a sin, but God didn't deal with all things bc some were cultural. Also, even though having slaves was allowed, there were rules about how they were to be treated. With the homosexual question, God says homosexuality is a sin, so it is. I hate sin, so I hate homosexuality. I love homosexuals. There's a difference. I hate the sin of homosexuality, yet love the sinner, the homosexual. That's what Christ commands, to love everyone but hate sin and not tolerate it.

The average "Christan" will tell people that they have been freed of the law (Old Testament) when Jesus came to die for their sins before they were born. Using Peters vision in Acts chapter 11 verses 4-18 Hence the Christian who knows the Bible does not use the Old Testament Law (as some people say that "it does not count") they use Romans chapter 1 verse 26 which speaks of both men and women.
I follow the "love the sinner hate the sin" as true Christians are called to love their neighbor as them self. I love myself therefore I will not purposely hurt myself. I love my neighbor therefore I will not intentionally hurt my neighbor...

Why did Hitler pick on the Jews?
The catholic/christian church more or less views homesexuals as an inferior people. They believe that God created man and woman for a purpose, and homosexuals are in fact insulting god by neglecting his purpose. Sort of like if mother hands a child a pair of underwear, assuming he will wear it around his waist. Well, when the child goes parading around the street with the garment on his head, the mother will tell him to take it off. Why? Surely this isn't hurting anything? Because your mother did not intend for the underwear to go on your head and would be embarassed for her child to be seen this way. The church is merely the sibling in the family, telling you to take the underwear off of your head before you get to heaven and mom gets pissed!

Fear of what they don't understand. Yes the bible says alot of things are wrong & people do them all the time. They pick & choose so they can have one area where they can get a rise out of people. And to justify their position(right or wrong) on the subject that they don't even know what they are talking about...some people just like to sound like they know everything about everything when they don't know anything about anything.

you make a good point. gay people have put themselves out there to be picked on. i'm not saying that they deserve it, but a few decades ago there was not all this stuff about gay marriage, gay parades, etc. a lot of people choose to pay attention to certain things in the Bible and interpret them in the way that suits their agenda. i'm sure in the days of slavery in the US there were a few people who tried to justify it using the Bible.

I don't beleive the Christianity picks on gays. I think misguided people do. Is gay a sin? yes. But it also states to love the person and hate the sin. As it is with most things
