From a Christian, bible-following point of view, is it right to use birth control and pain killers? I mean, God says in Genesis that because Eve ate from the tree of knowledge, he will increase her pain during child birth, and yet she will still long for her husband. Does this mean that when we are using things like birth control and we take pain killers to ease the pain during labor, we are, in a way, trying to get around God's punishment for us? Or am I thinking too much? Is it Eve's punishment only?

Yes, you are.

Such modern conveniences could never have been thought of in those times. God gave man the smarts to develop these tools. Used correctly, they are a blessing.

The church looks down upon birth control in general, they don't even want Africa who are suffering an AIDS epidemic to use them so that tells you how extreme they are. There are some other religions that see nothing wrong with using birth control, Islam for example. It is your decision, and yes-apparently women menstruate and give birth because it serves as a punishment for Eve being a 'temptress.' Do what you feel is right, there is nothing wrong (in my opinion) with taking pain killers during the birthing process.

You are thinking a lot, its ok to live life! Remember God looks at the heart not what you do or don't do. If you go to church or not God still loves you, if you have an alcoholic drink or not He still loves you. Being holy does not mean that you refrain from doing things, His Son that died for our sins make us Holy and His grace covers us. So if you want to take pain killers and birth control then do so, God looks at your heart and He sees that you want to honor, love and do right by Him. Nothing changes that.

Biblically, birth controll is not a good idea. God struck Onan dead for purposely failing to impregnant his dead brother's wife (not for "self gratification" as many would say) Pain killers are a different story however. People drank wine to relieve pain but from then until now, they should never be abused.

The bible is sexist. So, if you want to be oppressed, then yes. They're bad. If you feel like thinking for yourself, ignore the mandates of bronze-age, bigoted men.
