And when I say read that does not include having individual segments read to you in church.

If you have, how can you possibly ignore the glaring contradictions and still claim that the Bible is the inerrant word of God?

When you say 'apparent' contradiction, would you be referring to Genesis 1 and 2, where it's said that God created all of the animals on Earth and then man, only to later say that man was created first and then all of the animals on Earth?

I am a Christian that read The Bible twice. I have a friend that is an atheist and read The Bible three times.

Reading The Bible is one thing, seeking is another.

It is obvious that you have not read the Bible in it's entirety, so why criticize others. If you questioning the existence of God, forget the Bible for a minute and look around you. Everything you see was created somehow, or by someone. Our bodies alone are so complex, that it is scientifically impossible to have just happened by accident. And, yes, I have read the bible, the entire Bible. And yes, if yu don't know the cuulture, and time period that that particuliar book was written, then you may come up with the conclusion that there are contridictions in the bible. Byt, if you understand that some is just history, some are songs, and understand that the letters in the new Testament were written while the deciples were trying to figure out how to live under the law, and under grace, then you cna begin to understand why it can be confusing.

I hope I helped you.

I have read the Bible and struggled with the things that seemed to be contradictions myself! The thing I've learned is that in English, we only have so many adjectives ("love" for example means so many things, and can be used to describe the way we feel about a person or a hot dog...) Hebrew and Greek have many ways to describe love and many other words, because of this we in English have fewer ways to express and therefore translate Biblical teachings...it's harder to understand because we have fewer words to use...things that sound like contradictions in English may very well have a completely different meaning in Hebrew or Greek (such as the word fool, there are so many "foolish" proverbs and some contradict one another but if you were to read the same script in Hebrew the word "foolish" describes a specific act in one that differs from the other) I hope this makes more sense. If you find contradictions, look them up, go to the library, web sites, and even a Christian book store for a more in-depth look into what the verses are actually saying. Seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be opened! God Bless

Seriously, sometimes people can believe in things even though the translations may show aparent contradictions. Not all Christains claim that the Bible is the inerrant word of God. In fact, the Vatican recently issued a statement calling all creationists pagans.

Not to brag, but I "have actually read the Bible in its entirety," more than once. I've even dedicated time to ernest study of it. What does that prove?

But I'm not a Christian (yeah, so I'm damned for all time, etc. etc.)
so maybe I shouldn't be answering the question.

EDIT: Will - the Bible doesn't claim to be the innerant word of God, and that's not what the question said either. Many people say that the Bible is the innerant word of God.

CONTRADICTIONS OF THE BIBLE are works of satan. I have read the Holy Bible several times. By God's grace, I have seen healing and miracles. I have learned to never question God. "...some ask questions and wonder why, I ask questions and wonder why not?" Therefore, the Bible is the inerrant word of God. Only those who do not believe in God, will attempt to contradict His plans for us. Man [devil] continues to tear down God's message, to find the weak and destroy them... satan will always contradict anything that he didn't have involvement in, merely to get you on his side and to try to demonstrate there is no God. We fight a battle against principalities; for many do not read for knowledge and understanding and as such, you will always find contradictions. We Christians must continue to pray and ask for direction and knowledge before attempting to read the Bible, that is why so many non-believers contradict God's creation and His plans for us in this world and the next. CONTRADICTIONS are of satan and not of the Creator.

Just bend over and kiss your a s s goodbye. Those aren't hard to understand, what's hard to understand is that you are still whining about not understanding.

God doesn't want some people. It sounds like you are one of those. Either you stop listening to those that are confused and try to find those that aren't so you can learn, or rot!

Keep going to skeptics if you want to rot.

It's your choice. And yes I've read the whole Bible. You are just not awake! You may never be. But why do you trouble with it? You're wasting what little time you have before you die. So go surf or something.

Those verses are simple! Sheesh!

I have read the Bible all the way 2 times. I believe every word of it. The KJV bible is the truth from the beginning to the end. There are no lost books in this Bible. I may not understand it all, but i believe it all. Jesus is the living word, and the Bible is the true written word, and i believe in them both.

I have. Have you taken Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic? There are many words that can't be translated in the English language as well as in another language as is with all languages. Also, when some one doesn't read in context of the whole section or reads it looking for error they will make it read to fit their stand. Do you know what was going on in history during that portion of writing? What the writer was addressing? What kind of writing style they were using?
I believe every word of the Bible. I have seen the words written in it proved over and over in my life and in the life of others.
Until you can understand it in it's original languages and with an open mind you really don't have any argument in it.

I did at least twice. I don't claim the Bible is the inerrant word of God.
