Use Abreva. A pharmacist told me that it's the only thing over the counter that helps make it go away. Everything else just treats the symptoms.

First just to let you know Cold Sores are a form of Herpes. Abreva is NOT A CURE for Herpes it is a temporary releif cream. It helps to heal the cold sore. While your cold sore is visible & open you can give Herpes to others. So be careful.

Well it depends on what stage it is in. If it hasn't broken out yet, you can put an ice cube on it. Believe me I thought that was a myth until I tried it! You can also use something called Novitra which is about half the price of Abreva and a bigger size tube, so more for your money and it's pretty effective. And lastly, don't pick at it! Just let it scab and fall off! I know that is tough, but trust me, you'll be glad you did in the end!

use ice ...Cold sores generally clear up without treatment in seven to 10 days...Try applying ice compresses to the blisters to ease the pain. Application of ice for five to ten minutes each hour during the day will reduce the temperature of the area where the cold sore is forming. This temperature reduction will lower the area's metabolic rate and, in turn, hamper the cold sore's development. Intermittent application of ice to cold sores can act as a numbing agent, which can lessen their pain and itching.
Apply Tea Bag Tea contains tannic acid and it has been suggested that tannic acid possesses antiviral properties. Placing a tea bag on cold sores when they begin to form especially during the tingle stage can possibly minimize the extent to which they will develop. One should position the moistened tea bag on the area where the cold sore is forming for a few minutes every hour.
Petroleum Jelly When applied to cold sores, moisturizing agents such as petroleum jelly can help to prevent cold sore scabs from cracking and bleeding.
Let it heal. Avoid squeezing, pinching or picking at any blister.

Abreva works best when you can catch the cold sore early. The sun sometimes dries it out but be careful because it can get very ugly and sore. And, don't lick your lips....this makes it worse.

Campho-phenique..an old tried and true remedy. Contains camphor oil and eucalyptus oil. I am 53 years old and it worked when I was a kid and still does. But find out why you are getting cold sores..could be an allergy to something you are eating or having a fever.

Listerine ... Soak a cotton ball with it and hold it on the cold sore for as long as you can stand it. Do this a few times a day, and it will be gone before you know it.

abreva is good but it's probably too late, that is for when you 1st get it. Try Carmex it's like a buck. always throw away old tubes(or jar-whatever) as soon as it's gone. STOP TOUCHING IT!!
