Old people seems to change the younger ones to their liking, but infact, they are not changing, but they are guiding the youngsters through various phases of life based on the experiences in their life. They do not want the youngsters to commit the mistakes they did or they do not want the youngsters to lose the things which they couldn't gain by acting so and so. thats why they interfere but its always interpreted like they are forcing their wishes on youngsters. Dont think that Iam old and supporting old people. Iam only 26 still :-)
Young people want to change the world. They are often misunderstood that they are disobedient or irresponsible but what they actually try to do is, to find something new, to prove their talent in some creative way. So, they do exactly the same thing which you tell them is risky and not to do. They want to prove that they are more smarter than others or atleast than the older generation. They want to prove that what was impossible yesterday, may be possible today. Its often is found true. There were days when people laughed at the idea of man flying in sky, but today airlines are common means of distant transport.
I wont say that either of them are wrong. Both are correct from their own points and both are quite reasonable. Its only what we call as "Generation Gap."
Positively, to avoid such hot debates or arguments at home, we need to learn to think from other's point of view.
For Old People : If a youngster is out to practise something new, encourage him to go on and then caution him about the risks on that way. Dont just stop them, as it turns them against you.
For Young People : When your elders stop you from doing something, dont argue with them, as it shows lack of respect and disobedience. Listen to their reasons and assure them that you would keep those things in mind and carry on carefully. That would comfort them.
So, by mutual understanding and consideration the gap can be reduced and happy, healthy relations can be maintained forever !
Nice thought provoking question. Keep it up. Good Luck. Bye

In every culture of the world, "old people" are supposed to be respected because they've gained wisdom and understanding in the years they've lived, in the roads they've traveled. They've been there, done that, bought the video, own the T-Shirt. They've forgotten more than you will learn.
Rebellion is nothing new. My goodness, teenagers have been rebelling against authority and the establishment since God was a child. You're not the first generation to turn into monster children. You're only THIS generation of monster children. And you still need to open your minds and close your mouths for a moment and listen to some of the "old people" who have already made the mistakes you have made and will make in the next 10 years.

There is a gene that is responsible for aging. An animal study shows it may be inside of us, in the form of a gene that prolongs the lifespan of mice. Age Busting Gene Methuselah is said to have hit 969, Jared 962 and Noah over 500. We're not talking career home runs here, but biblical-era birthdays. Since no one's matched these records to date, most of us have more modest numbers in mind when we think about living a long, healthy life of 85. As scientists slowly pick apart the biological mechanisms that cause us to age, the future could see more of us winding upwards. Fresh evidence from an animal study shows how a gene called "klotho" — named for the Greek goddess who spins the thread of life — acts like a natural anti-aging hormone in genetically engineered mice.

Got news for you...it's been like that for thousands of years.
it's not the old people want to CHANGE young people. It's that they don't want them to make the same mistakes they did when they were young.
At one time most grandfathers today used the drugs of their time. As they grew older they realized how bad they are and don't want their kids and grandkids to go through the hard times they had because of drugs. It's the same with alcohol and sex. This generation isn't the only one to have high pregnancy rates among unwed women. It's happened before with out forefathers.
The biggest problem is that young people thing old people are stupid and won't listen to their elders. THE OLD PEOPLE ARE RIGHT! They've already gone though what you are going through. Listen to them!.

There is a quote from a Native-American that may fit here:
"The natural law is that all life is equal in the great creation:
and we the human beings are charged with the responsibility (each in our generation) to work for the continuation of life.'
Simply put, it is the responsibility of the 'old' to be the caretakers of the world...but this is a never-ending cycle of life. The young become the old in a perpetual changing of the 'guard'. Who is to say who is going the changing...and to what?

It is a new time and a New World we live in, That has passed we Oldies up. So I am hoping for Sound Guidance from this coming Generation, Who will have as many if not more burdens to bare than we did. I have Faith the Lord will Guide them.

The young ones should listen to the wisdom and experience of the old and honer then for what is right. Only then will the young ever get the tools they need to change the world.

Older people have had many more years of conditioning. I often wonder where the hell all of the hippies went? They had the right idea, yet they just stopped. Conditioning? Well, if you feel you can change the world and that is what you are supposed to do, then do it. Don't let people stand in your way. We can't blame the older people, they are just that much deeper in their conditioned process. They don't care to make life changes anymore.

You must be young. The old know their liking matters not at all, we just want you to survive in style, but of couse the idiot, the id controls the child so you think you know everything about what the old have learned from experience. Wake up and listen, mayhaps you might survive.

I think we can all learn something from our elders and I'm constantly learning things from the younger generation. I personally don't think it's possible to "change" anyone. The only thing I can control is my reactions and interactions with people, young or old.
