I would like to learn French because that's a very important language in Europe (I'm German, but I only speak English, German and Spanish - and a little Italian)
@ monkeyface: Your advice is pretty arrogant - American English isn't "British English gone wrong" - it is a different language. Every language develops and American English is not more "wrong" than British English. It's just different and you'll have to accept this fact.
I think you would be very surprised about how very similar some European languages are - for example Dutch and German - but they are still separate languages even if I as a German understand Dutch and it sounds nice but somehow "wrong" to my ears - because it is a different language.
It's the same with AE and BE. American English is supposed to be written and spoken different from British English because it is another language - it's not "wrong".
Please consider being less arrogant. The origins of AE were BE, but now they are different languages.

I know Russian and English not bad, besides I tried to learn Turkish when I was in Istanbul. But I'd like to learn French because it's the language of love and it sounds so sensually! And Arabic! It's very unusual and is so different from European languages!

Just commitments required.
Goto night school
Learn anything latin based, as its easy to move languages then
for example, if you know Spanish, you can understand italian and french is only a small bit different. the portugese etc.
You have many countries to speak to then.
German will give you a base for germanic languages.
But basically stay with english cos the others all speak it.
Well those that matter anyway

haha this is funny but i have been contemplating this question myself. Ultimately I want to master one of the latin languages and since I live in the US I would take spanish coz it is more common and useful but if I didn't live here I would learn italian.
Since my roommate is Lebanese I am going to learn Arabic coz I can combine theory (books) and practice (speaking with her). This will speed up the process and watching the Arabic channel will help too!

French because it is so widely used in so many coountries....and about 50% of the words are close to English, so it wouldn't be as hard as say learning Chinese. Also, it's a very beautiful sounding language and it would give me great joy to speak it.

sure, surely. the extra youthful you are able to commence, the better this is in the long-term. From the journey of my babies studying their 0.33 language (bilingual significant different and babies which moved to a rustic the place a 0.33 language is spoken), i will say that 4 year olds locate it plenty extra stable than 2 and 3 year olds to get all started in a before-unknown foreign places language. From my journey as a language instructor i will say that 6 year olds locate it plenty much less complicated than 10 year olds, and something older than that could have plenty extra artwork to do.

Egyptian arabic. I love the culture, history, country and people and would like to be able to speak the language and not look like a "tourist" every time I go there.

Japanese might be useful since they are now a major power in the economic world.
But if you are American, might I suggest re-learning English the way it was supposed to be spoken & written.
I do not wish to be rude but American "English" is neither written, spelt or spoken correctly & ,in my opinion, is only barely English.
