No, you are not fat. If you feel that you are not comfortable with your body, then research what foods are best for a growing kid to avoid fat buildup. Make sure you exercise when you can. I don't mean you have to go everyday and work out in a gym, I mean just getting daily walks in or running if you like. If people call you fatty, they should go jump off a cliff or learn to accept all people, regardless.

Well by scientific standards, you would be classified as overweight. Not to be offensive, of course, because you might be muscular. Although 4'11" is not a bad height for your age, the average weight for someone like you would be approximately 97 pounds. But at your age, most people are going through puberty. I wouldn't worry about your weight overmuch, because to diet now would seriously stunt your growth. Just be careful what you eat. Find a sport to get into, or just do some simple weight training. Start with some easy situps. Do 20 today, and go from there. Good luck:)

Absolutely not. And in my experience, kids will call anyone fat regardless of how they look. You could be skeletal, and kids might still call you fatty, just because it is hateful and they want to say something mean to you. Don't believe the lie!!!
At 12 you are still going through puberty and your body is still changing. If you eat pretty healthy and get some exercise at least a few times a week, you are going to be just fine. If you are worried, you can ask your doctor next time you go for a checkup, but I don't think you need to worry about it - you're not fat.

You are still wearing your baby fat! You are at the age that it will come off naturally and easily. Did you gain weight at about 10? Most kids do between 8-11 before they have a major growth and hormone change around 11-14. If you are worried just lay of the sweets fo awhile. Try not to let it get to you when peoople say stuff like that . They are either love-teasing and care about you or their just meanies and don't count!! There will always be those that will say something stupid even though they know better.

No, of course not. I was 4'11" when I was 12 too and about your weight. You're not fat, you're fit. It's healthier to be your weight than some other kids that are just skin and bones. Trust me, you are not fat you're normal. It's better to have a little fat though because when you grow, your body stretches and you will be perfect; not too skinny, not too fat. If you don't have fat, you won't grow because you have nothing to stretch.

So, when you grow up, people won't call you fatty anymore and you can call them 'scrawny'.

At your age people will find anything they can to pick on. I don't know the size scales by heart but you don't sound that heavy. If you want you can always find information on ways to eat more healty and exersize more to cut a little of the weight. But then the same idiots will find something different to bug you over. Smartest thing to do is don't let them bother you and ignore them. If they don't back off then get an adult involved and let them know just how hurtful they are being.

But again if you think you need to change some thing then figure out a plan of action and then do it. Just do it in a health way whatever you do.
Best of Luck

A 12 year old (female) child
who is 126 pounds
and is 4 feet and 11 inches tall has
a body mass index of 25.5,

which is at the 95th percentile,

and would indicate that your child is at risk of becoming overweight.

See our guide to Overweight Kids for help getting your child to a healthy bmi, and the Top Books to Help Overweight Kids.

See the notes on BMI below if you have any questions...

To interpret your child's BMI, you can also check the Girls BMI Growth Charts to see if your child has a healthy bmi. Just plot your childs age and BMI and see what the percentile is. (See our guide to Understanding Growth Charts if you are not sure what to do.)

Remember, a child is considered to be:

* overweight if they have a BMI over the 95th percentile for their age
* at risk of becoming overweight if they have a BMI between the 85th and 95th percentile for their age
* underweight if they have a BMI under the 5th percentile for their age

And a child has a healthy BMI if it is between the 5th and 85th percentile.

Kids can be cruel. Ignore them I know its hard but you can do it . They are always going to find someone to pick on. Any one thats a little different . I got picked on for having a weird name.

At age 12 its hard to say someone is fat because you still have so much growing to do. Do you feel you are overweight ? If you feel that way talk to a trusted adult ( parents , caunselor) and ask for help. Cut out alot of sugar and fast food ...swap junk food snacks for healthy snacks.get out and walk get some exercise. If you are comfortable with your weight right now then I wouldnt worry about it.

The Family
The risk of becoming obese is greatest among children who have two obese parents (Dietz, 1983). This may be due to powerful genetic factors or to parental modeling of both eating and exercise behaviors, indirectly affecting the child's energy balance. One half of parents of elementary school children never exercise vigorously (Ross & Pate, 1987).

Low-energy Expenditure
The average American child spends several hours each day watching television; time which in previous years might have been devoted to physical pursuits. Obesity is greater among children and adolescents who frequently watch television (Dietz & Gortmaker, 1985), not only because little energy is expended while viewing but also because of concurrent consumption of high-calorie snacks. Only about one-third of elementary children have daily physical education, and fewer than one-fifth have extracurricular physical activity programs at their schools (Ross & Pate, 1987).

Your peers call you fatty because they're 12. Most people that age are jerks. Don't let them get to you. I was extremely skinny at your age, and caught a lot of crap because of it. Now I'm 35, still very skinny, but nobody kids me about it. In fact, nobody's kidded me about it since high school. It does get better.

In my opinion, most 12-year-olds should have their mouths taped shut and should get a daily kick in the butt.
