Excellent question, but in America everybody is qualified. I have 21 certificates of completion myself. You not only have to to take College classes now, but have to pass the certification tests for your portfolio. The people from China and India have created this type of competition and they will work basically for free.

Pick a programming language. Buy a book on that language. Take a college class on that language. Find a reason to write a program using your new skills.

First pick a language
* BASIC
* Pascal
* Java
* C/C++
Find a compiler for it, then torrent a bunch of books based on that language and start learning on your own :)

Sowftware develpoer would be a long way to get there you need to know c++ html and xml coding. I sugest you go for graphic artist its very easy espically if you use photoshop if you want you can e mail mem to get links for some tutorials.
