The major change is in the activities that are being done. Most kids to day sit in front of computers or TV and play video games. Kids no longer just go ride bikes, play ball or eat something mom cooked. Kids run to McDonald and super size everything. It's all the sugar and fat. But, we also have the few that are not in that same group but the ones that have medical conditions that cause the obesity such as toroid problems.

Fast food has been around for decades, but not on every corner like it is now, also both parents work in most homes so kids are left setting on the couch playing videos instead of playing outside. Most kids, when I was growing up couldn't afford to eat out, now it's cheap .

Technology - it's going to kill us. What kid would rather be out playing hide-n-seek when he can kill people in a video game or race a car for hours. When I was a kid (more than 2 decades ago) we were never home in front of the TV and video games were unheard of! We were out playing neighborhood hide-n-seek, swimming, riding bikes, etc. We weren't at home, glued to the TV or computer watching commercials for junk food and sodas and fast food! It's a shame. I can remember leaving the house at 9am and not coming home until the streetlights came on. Now, that's when the kids want to go out. And now, I'm just as guilty as everyone else for watching 190 channels on TV and eating some junk food, but when these children are the age where you can teach them good choices, that's what they're doing!!!

Yes fast food is one thing.....but.....the other thing is what's on the shelves at our local grocery stores. The food that gocery stores sell today has changed dramatically over the past 20 years. Most of the food out there is like glue that clogs up our system and turns into fat. Plus most of us only drink water when we are thirsty....especially kids. Wrong! A person needs to drink plenty of water, even more so when they aren't eating properly.
Fresh fruits and vegetables....excercise. Don't give them so much of a choice as to what they want to eat.

Well the food has definitely changed because they have like all these combos for only 5o cents more and people get the combos all the time and gain so much more weight.
Also TV has became really big and everyone are just couch potatoes and don't excersize that often.

Its a combination of a lot of factors in society. Couch/mouse potato, parents that make their kids watch tv so they can have quiet time instead of making the kids play and run around. Kids don't have to work as much around the house as they use to. The availability of fast food, and the lack of home cooked meals has also increased. There is never just one clear cut answer it is always a combination.

Im not sure I think now the food is much larger than before, the food gets bigger and bigger, like the new burger king burger with four freakin slabs of meat in there, I think people are lazy now to cook sometimes as well, its easier for some to just go out and buy it, then prepare something healthier at home.

Not having physical education for all 4 years of high school for starters. The invention of the computer and all that it entails. Young people would rather sit around playing video games than be outside burning up calories. And the third reason is what is served on today's high school campuses. . .soda, pizza, and other high calorie foods and beverages.

Hmm........Let's see........It used to be 5 channels of t.v. or outdoor play. Now, it's REALLY long video games, 80 channels, a PC that EVERYONE has with internet that can literally entertain FOREVER. Also, global warming makes the outdoors too hot and fast food companies have more selections making it less sickening to eat and burgers are getting massive.
