For those of you that answered that you don't know if there is an afterlife, that you don't necessarily know heads or tails about God you are agnostic which means "against knowledge" namely in the neighborhood of whether God exists.

We are all part of the same decaying organic matter, of carbon based life forms. Flesh and bone and when dead rendered completely useless, but what about the other thigns that we have above the rest of the animal kingdom. Self awareness, complex communication, thought, reason our soul and so many things that differenciate us above the monkeys that we supposedly came from.

There is an afterlife, Heaven is in store for us all. My little brother died of cancer when he was 7. I was 16 watching him die. It was horrible but the thing that I saw was a little kid who didn't even hardly know hard to read See Spot Run, quoting bible scriptures, spoke of visions of Heaven so decript that it matched right up with the bible. He spoke of the angels he saw watching over him and sitting with Jesus and a brother that my mom aborted that I never knew about.

At this time you're saying that sucks that God gave him cancer. He didn't, whether you 7, 17 or 70 we are all going to die some day and the means of death are subject to the world that we live in. But what I do know from my little bros vision and the provision my family received is that God is real and he really cares about us all and ultimately saving him from cancer would have prolonged the inevitable as he would have died another way at some other point in his life. So what God did is took the cancer away, the pain the tears and replaced it with joy and glory eternally in Heaven where he is now. So tell me there's no afterlife and I'll laugh cos I know better.

Why do you believe otherwise? Because a book told you there is? The bible and other religious books were written by man to keep the masses in control. They first destroy hope, than they promise salvation of some sort, but provide rules to follow, thereby keeping you inline. I understand the need that people have to feel they have purpose in life, but there is no other purpose in life than to simply live it. Believing that some sort of paradise is waiting for us, to me at least, is foolhardy. Is it not better to live your life for you, not for some created parent figure? I say there is no afterlife, you have only this life, so enjoy it already.

OK first of all, please improve your spelling and grammar. Then, just because your atheist doesn't mean that you don't think there is no afterlife. I'm atheist and I myself believe in reincarnation. Other atheists believe that your cells just decompose and there's nothing to it. The truth is that we can't really be sure what happens after death, no one knows that for sure. Not even all of you who believe in your precious god. There might be an afterlife or there might not, there's only one way to find out for sure.

Because for an afterlife to exist, there has to be thing called the soul, and for an atheist, there is no soul, there are electric signals traveling through your brain, and experiences that effect the way you feel about certain stimuli.
When you die, those electric signals stop, and you're gone.

because there wasn't a "pre-life" so why would there be an "after-life"? when life is over, we return to the same state as before it began. Utter nothingness. I know it's not pleasant to think about, that's why so many different cultures create the afterlife myth, to comfort themselves that their loved ones are in a better place and death isn't the absolute end.

No reasons at all to believe that there is such a thing as an afterlife. So until someone dies, comes back and tell us all about it, it must be assumed that none exists.

First of all, it's "atheist."

To answer your question, it is not up to atheists to prove there is no afterlife. There is no evidence that any supernatural realm exists, and if the people who believe in such things want everyone else to believe, too, then the burden of proof is on the believer.

To date, no believers have been able to prove anything.

Hey, how do you expect Athiest to believe in the afterlife stuff? This afterlife stuff is related to religious thing so only religious people believe in it and not the Athiest.

You sound confused. Just because someone doesn't believe in God (atheism) doesn't necessarily mean that they believe in an afterlife. Those are two different topics.

Because our ability to experience the world seems to be the product of brain activity, and when a person dies, that brain activity ceases. That's a pretty solid reason to think that when you die, you're done. There's no evidence to the contrary, so there it is.
