Or this one?
Timothy 2, 9 "In like manner women also in decent apparel: adorning themselves with modesty and sobriety, not with plaited hair or gold, or pearls or costly attire."

Or last of all?
1 Corinthians 11:10 Therefore ought the woman to have a power (covering) over her head, because of the angels. (who are present in the assemblies of the faithful)

Actually I read a great book called "Dressing With Dignity" which made me reevaluate how I dress and why.

The first means wives are subordinate to their husbands. Don't get all in a huffy with me here, ladies, let me explain. Wives are partners with their husbands, but when it comes to big decisions, if the two disagree even after much discussion, wives are to follow the husbands. If someone has a problem with this, just look at what husbands must be willing to do!
"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, because we are members of His body." (Ephesians 5:25-30)
Husbands must love their wives like Christ loves the church. Because the church is the Body of Christ, its like, you must love your wife as if she is your own body. Also, a husband is commanded to be willing to die for his wife. He must also nourish and cherish her.
The rest of those verses are mostly explained by this:
"Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause my brother to stumble." (1 Corinthians 8:13)
But instead of food, you can substitute fancy or provocative clothing. "Therefore, if my appearance causes my brother to stumble, I will change it, so that I will not cause my brother to stumble."

Ephesians 5:22
" Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord"
This means that the wife is to be subject to the husband, and the husband is to treat his wife with respect and make sure she is happy. My grandma used to defer all her wants and decisions to my grandpa, and in return my grandpa would bend over backwards to make sure she got everything her heart desired.
Timothy 2, 9 "In like manner women also in decent apparel: adorning themselves with modesty and sobriety, not with plaited hair or gold, or pearls or costly attire."
Women shouldn't tart themselves up but should dress modestly.
1 Corinthians 11:10 Therefore ought the woman to have a power (covering) over her head, because of the angels. (who are present in the assemblies of the faithful)
A woman covers her head as a sign of modesty and purity while in church. It's not because she is lesser than men, but because as a woman she symbolises the Church in a special way.

hi,
looks like the questions are about women and morality huh?
well, i often wondered about some of these questions, but i read a book by Joyce Meyer and it gave insights into them. the book is called 'Knowing God more intimately'
maybe you should get it - it will be of great help cos she addressed this issue in it.
a woman must be submissive to her husband means she should give all the respect to him. but that doesn't make her his slave. she has her rights as a human being.
i guess there's an issue of modesty talked about here as well. remember the beauty of a woman is in her hair. if by leaving her hair she'll distract men or cause someone to sin, why not cover it then?

You must have to distinguish between the CULTURAL and the DOCTRINAL messages in the scripturesl.
Dressing up is according to your cultural background. I live in the tropics and long hair, extremely humid body covering are torture. Besides, if we are to take dressing up to literally, then shouldn't men also wear long skirts?
Jewelry doesn't make one automatically heathen. It's how they are worn and if they represent symbols which are otherwise contrary to Christian belief.
As to wives being submissive, yes, but the husbands should LOVE their wives, for it is hard to submit to an unloving husband.

In your first reference, Wives:
A few verses prior to this, husbands are addressed as to their appointed roles. Husbands are to Love their wives as Jesus loved the Church. When put into everyday terms, a husband is to care for and supply all things for his wife, including willingness to die for her if needed.
He is responsible for all her needs. Now onto the wives, basically it states that for the husband to be able to do this very difficult job, the wife has to "LET" him do his job. So she must submit to being taken care of in this way.
The same way that we all (men and women) submit our lives to God and live for him.
Now onto Timothy chapter 2
This verse is actually talking about a womans personality, and how she lives her life as being way more important and beautiful to GOD than what clothes she wears and how she wears her hair.
Other verses state more clearly about modesty in clothing and speech.
Next, onto 1 Cor:
To understand this verse, a little history lesson is needed. In the early church, women for the first time ever were allowed into the inside of a Church(temple) to worship with the men.
In Corinth, there were many pagens and it was the custom of the Pagen prostitutes to cut their hair very short or to shave it all together.
This verse is refering to hair and not hats at all. Paul is simply stating that as a Christian that we should not look like a pagan by shaving our head or cutting our hair very short. The covering he is speaking of is our hair.
I agree that as men and women , we should dress and speak to one another with modesty in mind. For if we are dressed, covered from head to toe, and speak suggestively to someone of the opposite gender, we are still being immodest. No different than dressing as a prostitute, and being offended when you are spoken to as one.
The basic premise to Pauls writings are often missed and misinterpreted by both men and women. Paul is simply stating that women are to be honored and adored and cared for, just as Jesus cared for and loves his Church (body of believers).

this is the result of a male dominated society. unfortunately many people have not grown up with the times and still subject women to these outdated 'morals' today.
