It wasn't the Tower of Babel that caused people to have different languages - it was God. And God did it because the people who were building it were prideful and thought they could make themselves gods by building it high enough...I do believe the Empire State Building was built under different circumstances!
Hope that helped - :)
P.S. It is not a myth either - reasearch it for yourself (someone didn't just plop it into the Old Testament)!

I'd be surprised if believers or non-believers would agree with you that the Tower caused people to have different languages. I think the believers would say that god had something to do with it.
And that leads to an interesting concept. Believers don't like the concept of evolution when it comes to organisms. What about languages? Do you think that languages have evolved over time? Could an Englishman from the 1600's understand an Englishman from today?
If god invented languages at Babel, they should not have changed since then.

Because the Tower of Babel really didn't cause people to have different languages.
That myth is popular folklore that was incorporated into the Old Testament.
It is what is called an etiological myth. A myth that explains why something is...
'The confusion of languages' is due to migration and geological seperation of homo sapiens over approxamitely 3 million years.

When the flood ended, God told the people to spread out , be fruitful and multiply but... the people didn't obey God and the reason they built the tower was because
1.They didn't trust God because they were afraid that God wouldn't keep his world by destroying the world again by water so they built the tower.
2. They was wanting to build a name for themselves and not give God the credit. God knows the intents of the heart.
The Empire State Building was built by man but I believe it was probably done with the right motive.

Right after Noah got out of the Ark, (Gen 9:1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. ) God wanted Noahs decendants to spread out and fill the Earth again with people. (Gen 9:7 And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein. )
Nimrod had the Tower of Bable built shortly after the flood of Noah in order to keep God from detroying everone again with rain. However, to do this meant everyone would have to live inside the tower, going against what God asked in Gen 9:7. God detroyed the tower and confused the languages (and created the different races) to force the people to leave the area and spread out across the globe.
The base of the Tower has been found in Iran and is about 1 mile across. It was supposed to be designed to reach hight enough that the clouds couldn't get over it. (This can be found in Josephus, Writings of the Jews.)

The Tower itself didn't cause it. It was the times that did. People ran around naked and partied, tried to become one, built a huge tower to prove their wisdom and God stopped their evil doings by making them babble.
The truth is, it is happening again. People are partying, stripping butt naked at bars, the world is pretty much speaking English and soon will share an economy. Some dude wants to build an elevator to the sky and we are going towards a one world goverment of complete control and evil. God will stop the evil ones again soon.
