I recently applied for a passport; they had to take my brith certificate. It will be returned to me in six weeks. I'm a minor. Should I get a duplicate for the time being? If I fly somewhere don't I need one as I don't have a drivers liscense, only a school ID?

it is a requirement to use for passport application..it might be returned to you or you can get another copy if you want to keep for another identification .. this birth certificate is to prove your date of birth and your country of birth,
and important details about you
If you have a passport, you don't need driver's license if you can't provide, a school ID or anything that could prove that you are the one on the passport with your full name and date of birth is accepted..yes, passport is not considered to be accepted sometimes because some are using fake passport so having some proofs could lessen any worries in future travels.

They need a legal birth certificate from the county you were born in. It's not the one from the hospital that is used for decoration.

I believe it's still required for a US passport even if you already have a drivers license unless you were born out of the country but are now a citizen.

The birth certificate proves that you were born a US citizen, so of course you needed to provide one with your passport application. While the passport is being produced you can get another copy of your birth certificate if you want to, but once you get your passport you will use it for identification; it is the ultimate and best proof of both your citizenship and your identity.

HI,,, are you really planning on flying somewhere??? or are you just running your mouth????

They need the birth certificate to make sure that you are who you say you are,, and so you can be registered for the many people that fly into foreign countries........
They all swap information about little ole you..even !!!!
