For my nephew's 4th birthday, one game we played was marble bowling. Take a shoe box and flip it over (so the bottom of the box is facing up). Then, cut little slots out and put point values above them (ex. 10 points, 20 points, etc...) Then, you have the kids roll the marbles and try to get them in the holes. Put the higher values towards the outside because those are more difficult to get.

Another thing I did was I had a "prize station." I made up fake money, and the kids earned money by winning games. Then, they could trade in their money for cool prizes (ex. a mini Slinky, a kite, a gooey ball, etc...) Kids love picking out prizes!

Another game we did was a scavenger hunt. I gave them clues...for example..."I am black and white, you can play me." The answer is: a piano! So they would go to the piano to find the next clue. At the end, there was the "fake money" for them all to split.

I would Google "kids game ideas" or something like that to find some other ideas.

GOOD LUCK!!!

(P.S...You can theme the games to what the birthday boy likes, for example...if he likes dinosaurs, make it a Jurassic Scavenger Hunt or Dino Bowling!)

We used to take brown paper bags (like you put your lunch in) and put an object in it and have the kids reach in without looking and feel around and guess what was in the sack. If they got it right, they got a prize. Also we filled a jar with jelly beans and had each kid write down how many jelly beans they thought were in the jar--the person who came closest won a prize and got to keep the jar of jelly beans :)
