According to the EPA , who check for more than 103 contaminants. There may be traces of contaminants left , but they are at safe levels. If your home is old and has lead pipes that is not safe and could be a source of problems. Also if you tap into a water source, such as a private or public well you should check for contaminants. You can request an annual water report if you use a public utility for your water source. Use a filter on your tap and change it regularly. Certain other countries I might have concerns....

Depends on what country you are in. In America the Public Health Department has certain standards that have to be met so the water is safe to drink-- however it can taste bad. In Denmark the natural chalk in the ground filters the water and the stuff out of the tap is as clean as bottled and tastes really good.

Depends on the area and what is put in the water. The amounts of different chemicals can also be an issue. Things like Mercury and large amounts of fluoride are not unheard of. There were times when I was little where the water in the area was so bad all of these notices went out about boiling it first then filtering it. And this wasn't some country area either.

I just use my Brita and keep a pitcher cold in the fridge. All city water is safe to drink as it goes thru a treatment process that has state and federal regulations for drink ability. Some water is harder (more chemicals) in it but all safe to drink.
Bottled water is just filtered or sometimes taken right from springs or rain water. You can get the same quality by using your own charcoal or reverse osmosis filtering system. Just be aware of filter maintenance to keep it working optimally.
Besides some people are allergic to the plastic bottles that bottled water come in. Just boil your water or filter it and that should be sufficient. Remember the best water is tasteless and odorless.

it depends on where your water is pumped in from.. do you know when you fill your glass with water and it's all cloudy.. thats not a good thing. the government allows a certain percentage of "stuff".. bacteria to "live" in our water supply.. not trying to gross you out.. but it's true. we all have it.. most of the times.. the "cloudy" goes away and the floaty stuff in your water disappears... sometimes and in some places in the US it doesn't.
I am not talking about world wide. Water problems and broken pipes.. water plants have leaks.. whatever.. watch court tv.. a water plant had to be shut down in a northern state a few years ago becasue their water was so poluted with these micro-organisms and bacteria it made people violently ill... Point is.. Don't drink your water if it's to "cloudy" looking. bowl it. Filter it. Drink bottled water. but tap water is not ALWAYS safe.. so don't trust everyones word.. do a little research on it and you will find out that I am telling you the truth.
God Bless

Generally no. Many brands of bottled water come from the community water supply of some city/town elsewhere in the country (it's their tap water).

If you are concerned with the water in your area, have it tested...or buy a purifier to attach to your kitchen sink or one of the purifying pitchers that filters water before you use it.

Unless you use well water that has a bad taste or smell, I don't think there's cause for serious concern. There are far more harmful things we come into contact with regularly, than our tap water.

Everything in this world is either dangerous or bad for you now a day. I'm going to smoke ciggaretts, drink tap water, drink beer, cross the street without looking, (will use a condom during sex lol) sit in the sun, eat fatty food, swim, play with the kids, have pets, get stressed out at work, go to funerals of those who were paraniod about life and died at 50, sit back at the funeral with a beer, and die of a heart attack when i'm 80. Happy. Sign at a health food store....eat here and live a long happy life. sign at a fast food restaraunt...eat here and die happy. lifes too short to worry about the little things, just go live and have fun!

if you live in Mexico.

any tap water CAN potentially be dangerous. it can run through rusty pipes, be infected or toxic due to improper cleansing processes, or due to faults anywhere in the line between the waterworks and your sink.

but, in America, it is usually not bad enough as to not be safely drinkable after filtering with a "Brita" filter
