You must learn to be a defensive driver, and I don't mean a scared driver. I've been driving for 25 years, and haven't had an accident in many many years because I've learned how to drive defensively, and have avoided many accidents that would have happened otherwise (all the others fault potentially, and most younger drivers).
Here are some pointers:
1. Leave plenty of room between you and the car in front of you so you never have to slam on your brakes.
2. Ease off on the gas a little. It isn't a race.
3. Don't weave in traffic.
4. ALWAYS use your turn signals even just when changing lanes. Cars have a blindspot, and if you don't see the other car there they will at least see your signal.
5. Don't drive angry. If somebody cuts you off just back off and let it go.
6. Always be aware of the other cars around you and what they are doing.

First, just stay out of the driver's seat for a week, but always try to sit on the passenger seat. Until you get accomodated to the fact a car rarely will hit you. Then start driving next week, but don't be too catious as that can lead to an accident too. You should start by just local only. And then the week after that get back on the freeway!
Don't worry about it. if you are scared, don't get in the driver's seat until you are confident. HOpe you start driving soon! :) Bye~

I got in an accident last February. The lady drove through a red light and I hit the brakes but not fast enough to avoid smacking her rear fender. Its a scary thing to go through. The fear of hurting yourself as well as another is overwhelming. But you can conquer your fear. You need to get back in the drivers seat - literally- and drive the best you can. The fear will get less and less as time goes by but that is how you start it. Just be cautious but not overly cautious and do the best you can. That's it. Good thoughts are with you.

You can overcome your fear by slowly easing back into driving. If you have back roads near your house, start out there and work your way up to the main roads where you will see more and more cars progressively until you can fully handle driving again. That technique is also a good way to learn how to drive with a standard transmission.

The very first time I drove my very first car I got in a bad accident and didn't want to drive again. My dad finally had to take me out at night when there was less traffic on the road and he made me drive home. He did this a couple of times and soon I was driving on my own again. It is very natural to be afraid but you have to start somewhere.

Maybe you could drive in a parking lot that is not busy, and work your way up from there. Keep trying a parking lot that is a little more busy each time, and hopefully soon after that you will feel comfortable enough to drive. I've been in a few myself (none of which were my fault) and trust me it does go away but it can take a little time.

Just stick with it. I was in acouple accidents when I was 16 and I got over it. Just be careful when you drive and everything will be ok. I know its hard right away but it will get better. Try driving when no one else is on the road, that will help you get over the traffic getting hit feeling.

Find an empty lot and practice driving there. The more practice you get, the better able you'll be to overcome your fears.

Are you ok? Sorry to hear about your accident. Everyone feels that way after an accident but you will be ok and that feeling will go away with time
