holy means "set aside" and could be because man set it aside for god, or god set it aside for god.

Holy isnt something that God says oh its holy all religons have holy Holy means to be Hallowed wich means to be set aside or different or even weird like reffering to the world I hade one person like attack me one time becuase there was a strip club that opened and we picketed and we werent being bung hols and like telling the strippers off and everything we actually offered jobs that payed higher and everything and i had some girl attack me saying the Female body is Holy in my religon and you all are a bunch of christian people who think youre more domnit then women thats crap the female is so highly presented in the bible so much that in old times like bible times it was flipped there is actually a verse sayingt that men are suppose to do the dishes and women are suppose to be in control of the money thing is here to kinda show what holy is is we believe the female body is holy wich means it is set aside not thrown around like everything else in the world is its somethimg special

good question...
Holiness is the only attribute of God taken to the third degree the highest emphasis in Hebrew is repeating something three times
HOLY HOLY HOLY is the Lord in Isaiah so you know its important
God is intrinsically pure and just and has integrity and consistent
God is holy because He is
Anything else is holy in a dependent way, Man is only holy by the redeeming power of God and legally holy through the cross and actually holy by being changed
"without holiness no one will see the Lord" Hebrews
--------------
Holiness in some ways means other
There is a pop defintiiton of holiness that is unfortunately used by lots of evangelicals and a very bad habit of them which is saying God is altogether other, but this is a really bad definition
God is not altogether other in many ways or else we would have no analogoical language to talk about him, in some respect he is sui generous (one of a kind) and in quality of attribute is different

Things are holy and God approves of those things. Causality does not enter in.

Holy in our spirit is
1. to do good for others and things
2. to practice and do truth for good
3. to extend righteousness in our contact with others.
These are the only attributes of God we can understand and do in our lives on earth to be Holy as he is Holy..
And anyone who will do the above three no matter what religion, no religion or sexual orientation are Holy and Gods true children.
And yes it is Holy and God approve it
And yes God approves it because it is Holy
This is your answer as to what is Holy..
and to your last two they are both.....yes

Holy = Absolute Perfection. Only God and His Word are, but He does ask us to strive for "holiness" as well.

In my experience, if something is defined as 'holy' it has meant that the Church (catholic or protestant) is claiming the authority to tell you what you can and can not do with it.
Like marriage, sex, your body, etc.
Example, if sex is holy, then you can only do it in the ways deemed acceptable by the church, etc. And to do otherwise is sinful (or so they say).
Rosends is right. It means 'set aside.' Just like what I said above.
