As a wild bird rehabber I found that lime and lemon juice works wonderfully well to kill bird mites. Wild birds engage in a behavior called "anting" where they will pick up ants and rub them on their feathers to kill mites. The ants secrete an acid when angry that kills the mites. I found several instances of birds being recorded as doing the same thing with lime and lemon peels, was stuck one Sunday with an infested owl and no miticide and tried lemon juice instead. Worked better than the miticide and I never used miticide again.

Call your local vet. It's very VERY easy to kill a bird, not to mention cause respiratory problems, etc. with products. Do NOT take anyone's advice other than a veterinarian on this matter. Especially if it actually IS mites, (which it may not be) other things than the bird will probably have to be treated....products not harmful to humans, dogs, cats, etc. will KILL A BIRD.

I would take it to a vet and one that has an avian license. After you get it taken care of they do have mite and lice metal disks you can hang on the outside of the cage to keep it from getting them again.
