My daughter pays 20.00 a day for her son. But that is discounted since the sitter is her godmother.

I worked as a babysitter from the time I was 12. For the first two years, I only charged $4 an hour for one child ($2 for each additional child, though I never babysat more than 2 children until I was older), because I was very inexperienced and had to be supervised for the first day or two of babysitting. After I turned 14, I started charging $6 an hour for one, plus $2 for each additional child. I kept this rate until I graduated high school and got my license in cpr and first aid. Then I started charging $10 an hour for up to 3 children, $4 for each additional child, and $5+ extra if they wanted me to do any housework not related to the children (if it was a LOT, it was more). I found this reasonable, and so did the parents. Six dollars an hour for the first, +2 for each extra kid, and no extra housework would be good for a teenage babysitter. If they have credentials as a nanny or a lot of experience with children (for example, a mother with grown children or a grandmother), the prices will depend on their experience, what area you live in, and their education. Ask the prospective babysitter what (s)he normallly gets, and if there are any other parents in the area that have babysitters, see how much they pay theirs. It truly does depend on too many factors to say an exact amount.

Two things, first don't be cheap your kids are important. Secondly, good babysitters are hard to find. You need to figure out the going rate for your area. I live in a suburb of Atlanta, sitters usually get between $10-$12 per hour. I pay $15, plus order pizza, and have good food on hand... and also always round up. If she is there 2 hours and 5 minutes she gets $45. You may think I am nuts, but my wife and I don't go out very often. I have 2 girls, and when I call she always sits for us because we pay the most. Teens and young adults are very busy these days, and you probably aren't the only parents requesting their services. Find someone you like and that your kids like then over pay them and they will always be available to sit when you need them.

I pay on a sliding scale - base rate of 6 bucks an hour -
however if you seem to be the world's best babysitter - I've been known to pay 10 bucks an hour, if extra stuff is done - IE they read my kids favorite books they did the dishes (if I left any in the sink), if they think of craft projects (I always have craft stuff around the house as we do a project almost everyday).
And if the house is relatively CLEAN - I mean go ahead and play all you want but when you're done, get my daughter to help you clean up - but make sure it's as clean as it was when I left!!!
I might even pay you the "regular amount" (6 bucks) and then add on a tip, and tell you it's because of all the good stuff you did!!!!

I would pay probably about $6.00 per hour, per child for a babysitter. And as far as the hours, I guess if I was working then for the 8 hours I was at work, OR if it was just for a night, however many hours I was out, like 3 or so.

For hourly child care (for example on the weekends if i want to go out or if i need the neighbor to watch my daughter for a few hours to run errands) i pay between $7 and $10 an hour (depending on how long i'm leaving and if she has to feed her or put her to bed).
My daughter is 19mos old.
Good Luck,

It depends on the age and how bratty the kid(s) are, along with for how long a period of time.
