During the war for independence, there was a wealthy group of people who became known as Torys because they opposed the rebellion and housed the British. That group was the church goers because it plainly states in the Bible that one must obey duly appointed leaders. George Washington was a believer in God, there were many who saw him in prayer before battle, but he along with many other brave souls could not abide by the rule of taxation without representation or benefits. Something like what is happening here and now.

As I recall, it was in the 10% range. The US is more religious now than it has ever been, contrary to lies the dominionists try to spread.
