There really isn't a middle ground here. Since you are worried for him, yet he doesn't think he has a problem, chances are he is still is an alcoholic. Nonetheless, the studies have shown that the number an 'average' man drinks, depends on things such as habits, body size, culture...If he is a typical American, he might be drinking 2-3 a night including one when he gets home, one with dinner, one while watching Sportscenter. Personally I drink 2 a night on average.

In Denmark one is considered an alcoholic if one is a woman and drinks more than 15 drinks per week and if one is a man I think the number is 20 per week.
In America alcoholics are defined as anyone who drinks even one beer a day and enjoys it or uses alcohol for any other reason than a beverage.
Hope I helped. But it doesn't sound to me like you have anything to worry about. As long as he is responsible and you can pay your other bills. And of course he doesn't turn into some kind of idiot when he drinks. I hope it doesn't cause problems between the two of you.

I do not believe that the average man drinks beer on a daily basis. If he is drinking 4-7 beers nightly , i would say he has a problem. Right now he is not violent and missing work , but that usually changes. I have been there already, with my ex and he is dead now, cirrhosis of the liver, He was 42 years old. You should ask your husband to slow down , but they usually do as they please and you can not force them to stop, believe me I tried every thing I could.

I drink 2 or 3 a night during the week but some weeks I only drink 2 times out of 5, the weekends I usually drink alot when going out. Drinking at home is boring unless someone is drinking with you.

I have dealt with addiction in my life and in the lives of most everyone in my family.
The determining factor for is it alcohol abuse is simply does it adversely affect any area of his life? You say he is responsible, and loving, and doesn't suffer mood disturbances. You also state he is never late to work. He does not have a problem with his drinking. He is simply a heavy drinker.
Your concern is not a waste though, the heavy drinkers are more prone to alcoholism than non drinkers. Just remember the determining factor, it is not causing any problems, so it is not a problem. Let him enjoy his beer. Some men can drink like that without issue. My own husband does. He can drink like that and not get drunk, stupid, or miss work. He can also decide not to drink if he so chooses, and he does take sabbatical once in a while. There are tons of calories in beer and he quits for a minute when his pants get tight... ;-)
There are enough real things to be trouble, thank god this is not one of them.
Hope this was helpful. I know I sleep better after the substance abuse director explained that criteria to me.

i only drink 1-2 a week. even if you aren't getting drunk, you are ruining your health by drinking too many alcoholic drinks. particuarly most forms of beer, which have anywhere between 90-150 calories EACH!

my husband could drink an 18 pack in 2 hours, but I also dislike the fact that he has to drink like a damn fish, I really don't know what he is trying to prove but honestly it bugs me , so its really up to you if you want to pick a fight with your husband about that
I really don't think so it's not really worth it. but you can ask him to slow down a little, well good luck and god bless..

It's too much if he wants to maintain a healthy liver.
Have him go to the doctor and have a liver function test performed. I bet it will come back showing some liver damage.
