I grew up in a United Methodist Church, and while Methodists vary quite a bit among themselves, I have found the Church to be very open. The attitude in the UMC is "think and let think." So no one is going to run you out or condemn you if you don't believe in a literal 6-day creation. In fact, I have met very few fellow Methodists who would insist on such a literal reading.
