He's really sweet tempered, but he hates baths. And he needs to be flea shampoo'd every so often. Anyone have a tip or two for me?

Try a dry shampoo for cats. (Wal Mart).
Then treat for fleas with flea powder.

Go to vet and buy revolution to take care of the fleas. If you don't like this. There is a waterless shampoo. If you don't like this. I shut them in the bathroom with me when I take a bath so they get used to the sound and see that I don't drown. Mine are strange because they will step in the tub onto me and lie on my stomach and meow to be petted. Try getting your hand wet and stroking his back--getting him wet while he is on the mat. This gets him used to water and he's not going to think you are drowning him.

In giving a cat a bath, the most important thing for a novice to know is that they should NOT be doing it at all.

You get a tall plastic trash can, put your cat in it and hold it by the back of the neck, and then pour water on it. (not in eyes)
I have had cats for many years and have never given a cat a bath. My friend told me about this way and she said that the vet told her this.

Hold by the scruff of the neck.. that's what their Mom would do to keep em still. They don't care for this, but it is helpful. Also, have a 'sprayer' around in th sink/shower.... this helps rinse faster. ALWAYS speak in a gentle loving voice and tell them 'good boy/girl' for not fighting you. I'll edit more if I think of anything else.

Best of luck!

You can tie a sock around the front part of the hind legs around the belly and it will immobilize the cat, don't tie it too tight though I don't know how or why this works but it does, but cats are the cleanest animals there are.

I don't think there is anything wrong with bathing a cat. Just be reeeally careful with their nails.

Have lots of patience, towels, and band-aids on hand. I give my cat a bath, and as long as the water temp is not too hot or not too cold, she's kind of Ok with it.

Cats are self cleaning. Unless he gets into something that will make him sick, leave him alone.
Get Advantage or Frontline for the fleas. They work better anyway.
